Forty Rod SASS 3935
Back in about 1955 my dad got a unique Christmas gift. It was a coconut in the "raw". It came without any packaging, just a coconut. A spot on one side had been cleared of all the shell down almost to the meat, leaving a whitish space big enough for an address and stamps. No return address or any other info on where it came from. It was postmarked Honolulu. He asked around to everyone he could find...and Dad knew almost everyone in out town of 16,000 people...but never could get anyone to own up to sending it, nor any info on who had. He got one every year until he died in 1989. He kept on trying, going so far as to contacting the post office to see if they could / would find out. Nothing. He, found six or seven places in Hawaii who told him they could send him one or send one to someone else for him, but none of them knew (or wouldn't tell) who had sent one to him. After he Dad died Mom got a coconut with a return address, a friend of Dad's who had died two years earlier, a full year before Dad passed. The last one in 35 years. We never found out who the original sender was...and never found out who had sent a coconut from the dead man who picked up the ball.

Forty Rod SASS 3935
I think it was one of two of his Lions Club or golfing friends. Both had kids who may have tried to carry it on with that last coconut.
