Wild Pike, SASS # 31760
I'm looking for a sight blank for my Pedersoli 45/70 Rolling Block 30 inch octagon heavy barrel. I have removed the buckhorn rea sight and would like to get the correct size sight blank for the dove tail. Thank You in advance Edited October 11 by Wild Pike, SASS # 31760
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Brownells is where I get sight slot blanks. You probably want a flat-topped blank to blend in better with the octagonal barrel, Here's some examples: https://www.brownells.com/gun-parts/rifle-parts/rifle-sights-parts/rifle-decorative-slot-blank/ https://www.brownells.com/gun-parts/rifle-parts/rifle-sights-parts/rifle--no.-87-dovetail-slot-blank/ https://www.brownells.com/gun-parts/rifle-parts/rifle-sights-parts/rifle-aluminum-dovetail-slot-blank/ good luck, GJ
Wild Pike, SASS # 31760
Thanks Joe I have seen them for sale. What I am looking for is someone that has replaced their rear sight on their Pedersoli so that I would know the correct size of the dove tail to order one. Appreciate the info. Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Take your calipers and measure the old sight. Most sights in the U.S. and those imported into the U.S. are a "nominal" .375 (3/8 of an inch). These vary widely and the chances that the dovetail in the barrel or the dovetail on the sight being a perfect .375" is low. Almost all require some fitting. Foreign guns or some U.S. guns may have something different. Only way to tell is to measure them. Remember do the fitting on the SIGHT as they are cheaper than new barrels.
