Schools and many other places are targeted because of the lack of armed individuals (civilian or otherwise).

 

From a News Article of the event (see link below), the location of this event like many others were chosen (according to her/his own writings) because of the lack of armed individuals at the site.

 

The original primary target was abandoned “because of a threat assessment by the suspect – there’s too much security – decided not to,”.

Green Hills is an upper middle class/borderline silk stocking area!  Not really surprising that an incident like this would happen in that area if it’s going to happen in Nashville!!

 

Many gated communities and homes in the area, so something “less guarded”, particularly a “Gun Free Zone”, would make a juicy target for some deranged individual with a grudge against the “well to do”!

Sure wish they would have armed guards are well trained armed staff at all schools!
