Charlie T Waite
Despite lawful gun ownership and gun shows already being highly regulated by California law, Governor Gavin Newsom once again signed legislation targeting law-abiding citizens, while doing nothing to address violent crime. On October 8th, he signed Senate Bill 264 into law, restricting gun shows in Orange County. Senate Bill 264 prohibits officers, employees, operators, lessees, or licensees of the 32nd District Agricultural Association from entering into any agreement to allow for the sale of any firearm, firearm parts, or ammunition on property or buildings that comprise the OC Fair and Event Center, or properties in Orange County and Costa Mesa that are owned, leased, operated, or occupied by the District. This imposes a one-size-fits-all restriction to prevent officials from deciding how to use venues. In addition, this prevents businesses from renting taxpayer-funded venues for lawful activities. Hendo
And again, we have a law that only restricts and criminalizes law abiding citizens. Where are the actual hard facts and statistics that back up this law? Link to comment
John Kloehr
We have the same issue here in Tennessee, we can not have gun shows in taxpayer-owned buildings. Not sure if state-wide or certain counties, but there is a restriction. There was once a school district with falling enrollment. The district chose to close some schools. It put them up for lease. A private school applied to lease a campus, but was turned down. The private school challenged it. The judge ruled there was no better use for a closed school campus than to use it for a school. There was no better use for these buildings than their intended purpose. Back to the OP, since gun shows were held in these buildings previously, they are clearly suited for the purpose.
