Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
Assemblyman Miguel Santiago of Los Angeles has asked Governor Gavin Newsom to suspend all firearms and ammunition sales in California. His letter to Newsom can be seen here... and if anyone might be so inclined to call his office, the letter includes telephone number: Miguel Santiago Letter Also, his email address is Assemblymember.Santiago@assembly.ca.gov I'd suggest that this fella is out of touch with reality, and seems hell-bent to protect us from ourselves by not letting us protect ourselves. bgavin
Even if Newsom declares martial law, he has no legal basis to suspend ANY part of the Fed or CA constitutions. • No legal authority to quarantine the healthy • No legal authority to shut down events or businesses • No legal authority to enforce social distancing of 6 feet • No legal authority to confiscate firearms or impede sales The above is the scholarly interpretation of the law as written... And won't make a bit of difference if you have a contingent of National Guard or cops on your doorstep demanding your guns or shutting you down. CA has already demonstrated a willingness to participate in a police state, with their fines and arrests. Link to comment
