PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L
One more time (since the posts are no longer numbered): Some clubs, particularly in the Great NorthWET, have a standing (published) range rule that allows transport of long guns with actions closed when enclosed in a case or scabbard. Some also extend that exception to enclosed gun carts. That is an unwritten allowable exception, but it requires absolute due diligence at the ULT to make certain that those long guns are CLEARED of all rounds, empty and unfired. The allowance has been in place since the very first TG Summit, at which the proponents of the "action open while being transported" rule were adamantly opposed to the exception. Those of us who sometimes shoot in blowing rain/snow/dust/sand were able to get the exception noted, but not codified. BTW...if you've never tried shooting in the middle of a "pummy dust" storm, don't talk to me about being "ocd" regarding covering long guns. ALL firearms were pretty much taken out of commission on the first stage at one memorable match. There is NO "blanket" allowance/exception under written SASS rules to allow transport with the actions of long guns CLOSED. It is up to the individual club (as some friends attending an 'out-of-state' match discovered when they had to carry the long guns to the next stage, then go back to the previous one to pick up their scabbards/cases). C0ckr0ach, SASS #26100
PWB; Would it be a local rule to allow long guns to be closed in a parked gun cart with or without a cover OR is that OK - as the long guns are not in transport just sitting in the cart ?
