Utah Bob #35998
The 1st Special Service Force trained in winter warfare at Ft Harrison in Montana. They were supposed to go on a Norway mission but it was cancelled. They ended up in the Aleutians and Italy. I put many a mile on their hideous Army 1943 model skis and snowshoes. Not much fun in the mountains of Bavaria and far upstate New York carrying hideous mountain rucksacks. Oh the talesI could tell.

Elk Creek LeMieux
Walking anywhere with a rucksack and snow shoes sucks. The end. Haha! It's a good way to stay warm though.

Parts of the 10th Mountain Division from there have spent a lot of time in Afghanistan.
