Captain Long Story, US Cavalry
Hanged for murder in 1880, Ned Kelly became a folk hero for standing up to the Anglo-Australian ruling class. His descendants are honoring his last wishes for a private service and burial, both finally happening this week. SYDNEY — The remains of Australia's most famous outlaw, Ned Kelly, are finally to be laid to rest, 132 years after he was hanged for murder. Kelly's descendants, who received the bushranger's remains after they were exhumed from a mass prison grave, said Wednesday they will hold a private church memorial service Friday before the burial Sunday in an unmarked grave. The homemade armor and helmet Kelly wore during his last violent shootout with police and his reported final words before he was hanged at Melbourne Gaol Nov. 11, 1880 — "Such is life" — helped make him an iconic figure in Australian history. http://news.msn.com/world/australian-outlaw-ned-kelly-to-be-laid-to-rest-132-years-later-

Constable Nelson #11784
Or.. in the words of a fairly recent young female PHD candidate... "A murderous thug who thoroughly deserved to be hanged... and was." He was no Robin Hood... (but then neither was Robin Hood! )
