Come On Christmas Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I figure somebody has run into this also. I have a Stevens Springfield Double Barrel Shotgun. Once you fire 2 black powder shells and reload the breach won't close. If I take it down and put it back together I can shoot two more black powder shells and have to repeat the process. Kind of a hassle if the stage calls for 6 shotgun rounds. I took it to a gunsmith. He took it out back of the shop and shot six smokeless shells into the air and it worked fine. Only seems to happen when you shoot more or less leveled at our targets. Ya'll helped me with my Stoeger fix, what is up with this? Thanks, Shameless
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 AHHHH, DON'T SHOOT BLACK POWDER SHELLS. They are bad for you too.
Come On Christmas Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 Then I die and leave a good looking corpse. Okay, now it's time for more serious minded answers.
Stubborn Dutchman, SASS # 61363 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I'm not familiar with that spacific gun, but does the extractor return fully into its pocket? I'd start looking under the barrels to see if there's any crud or interference with the extractor rod, or the breach lock. I've got an old 1887 SxS that was really crudded up when I first got it. Shootin BP it seems to get about everywhere. Just an idea.
Come On Christmas Posted November 4, 2012 Author Posted November 4, 2012 I have not shot it enough to get gunky. I can dry fire and open and close it all day. Wierd, huh?
