Long Branch Louie
I'm looking at putting a 5th generation short stroke kit in my '73. Just wondered about other folks experiences with it.
Stoney Creek
Had a C@I 5 th generation installed about two months ago in a 20" Model 66 38 special. It replaced a C@I shortstroke (not sure what generation) installed by Jim Bowie at EOT in 2003. I have started shooting this gun more. I am alternting between it and a Codymatic. I like both rifles and neither will be a safe queen. The 5 th generation action is slightly shorter and has a very positive feel. I like it alot. Marauder SASS #13056
If the gun has not been previously tuned and slicked up, going with a significantly shorter stroke will sow up any rough or tight spots and make the action harder to work. The shorter stroke slightly lessens the mechanical advantage of the lever so that a slick rifle is needed. Plus, you need to check the timing of the rifle before and after. See when the elevator starts to move up, when it starts to fall, etc. If the timing is changed, you can break the little tip off the bottom of the bolt and make the rifle fail to eject.
