Rare Husqvarna Combination Gun

Recommended Posts

A couple of years ago I picked up an oddly modified Husqvarna 103AS that was a combination gun (they are generally simple SXS). The rifle barrel had been bored out and a .22 WCF insert had been put in. I sent this gun off for major restoration work on the barrels, which consisted of having the rifle barrel (which for some unknown reason had been bored out from its original 12.7x44R to take the insert. Swede Bubba at his finest) relined to .38-55 by a gentleman in OR who specializes in turning old double guns into doube express rifles. The tubes I then sent off to MBAB LLC (Mark's Born Again Birdguns) in WI to have them resoldered and nicely rust blued. Both guys did a great job on the beast. Both bores are pristine looking.

I recall that the concensus among the Husqvarna experts was that none had ever encountered a combination 103AS and that it had probably been a special order gun. Damn you Swede Bubba!!! So it is a very interesting and rare piece, even in its restored and modified condition.

In any event, due to a variety of reasons, I have decided to part with it, as the number of guns I have now well outstrips the time I have to give them, along with new and greater responsibilities in my new job. So I have decided to sell it and put the money into our 77 MGB (I know, another money pit).

I paid $290 shipped for the gun (because the seller had no idea what to do with it in its Bubbaed condition). The barrel reline cost just shy of $500 and the barrel resoldering, polishing and rebluing was (IIRC) a bit over $500. I have since acquired dies and a bunch of brass and bullets, which I have not had time to do anything with.

The stocks need to be redone. Checkering is worn and the left side has some very minor grain splitting from drying out. This is all easily remedied. Both buttplate and grip cap are horn. The action is tight and the receiver has lots of case coloring.

So, I am offering it to my SASS Pards first, as the cretins on gun auction sites won't have a clue what a rare bird it is - or even care. For the whole shebang, I need get $1100 shipped to your FFL or C&R (I took it in under my C&R).

Will consider trades that I can easily convert to the cash I need, including any associated FFL fees involved with trade.

Attaching a couple of pics and have many more.

Love to have it as it is an oddity, but too rich for me right now. That might be one hard critter to sell. Good Luck Dusty'

Well Jim. Somewhere out there is someone who knows - like you - that it is well worth the price. But I will admit, it is a niche market.

Dusty

is the 12 ga chambered for 2 3/4 or 2 1/2?

Have you tried it out ? esp with the 38-55 ?

what is the bore size on the 38-55?

Thanks

RJ:

Gun has 2 1/2" chambers with mirror bores. The .38-55 was test fired, first by the guy who sleeved the barrel and then by the guy who resoldered and blued the barrels. No prooblems there. I have not had the time to put together any rounds to take to range. Not sure of the rifle bore, but it is the "modern" .38-55 dia.
