Texita Draw SASS#77940 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Are there any notable differences in the round bar and trunion style Load Distribution Hitches? What about brands? Are there notable differences in Reese, Ultra-Fab, Curt, Valley, Eaz-Lift? I am looking at the10,000#/1000# models. Thanks for the information in advance. I received some really useful information on the wire concerning generators. Thanks!
Angry Ned Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Howdy, you may want to check out the Travel Trailor discussion forums like RVNet for good info on weight distribution hitches. I have been using an equilizor (spl) hitch with my rig and find it to work great and easy set up. Ned
Bear Saint Paw Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I suggest http://www.equalizerhitch.com/ That is what I have for my 14K RV and It has worked great for 4 years so far. Just some of the benefits; •Compatible with electric or surge brakes •No "add-on" sway bars •Hassle-free turning and backing ( I understand some brands/types you have to disconnect before reversing) For lots of RV advice look on http://www.rv.net/forum/ There is or were several good reports on that hitch system. Another good read is http://www.etrailer.com/faq-trailertowtips.aspx They also have lots of parts.
Ozarks Monte, SASS #66019 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I Have Used A 12000# Adjustable Height Reese Hitch For Almost 15 Years With Not One Problem.I have Pulled All Sorts of Trailers and Loads. The Weight Distribution is Excellent.Mine Is The Round Bar Unit.Good Luck on Your Search.
Bear Saint Paw Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Another very well regarded, may be the best one is http://www.hensleymfg.com/ but they are not inexpensive.
Adirondack Jack, SASS #53440 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 whatever ya settle on, buy MORE than ya absolutely need, leave 20% or more leeway in the weight VS rating. If ya need 10K, buy 14K.....
Fairshake Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I purchased the Equalizer hitch and it is about $500 retail. You might find it discounted on the net. Once set it pulls so good that you don't even know you are towing anything behind you.
Col. Roosevelt Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I second the suggestion of getting more than you need. This is an area where there's no such thing as not having enough. I use a round bar model for my 32' trailer and never feel the "flexing" at the hitch that i notice with my smaller 2 horse trailer.
