  1. Great Lakes, like most every other military post, is selected for the record of high summer temperatures, low winter temperatures, and disagreeable amounts of rainfall, snowfall, or sunshine. That is why they spend so much money building Officer's clubs, NCO clubs and long drill fields. Mix in the toughest NCOs and Viola, you got military nirvana. :D

Do they still even have clubs?

  2. My preferred is a plain old "waiters corkscrew." About $6 to $12 for decent ones.

    Something along these lines:waiters-corkscrew-waiter-650.jpg

Easy to use, compact, not out a lot of money if it gets lost or "borrowed."

My wife could never get the hang of it. So I bought her an electric one.
  3. Yes I know that, but I can't remember the last time I got a busy signal which is my point! I don't know anyone with a land line that doesn't have voice mail!

All I have is an answering machine. It will not put you into voice mail if I'm on the line.

  4. Then why apply such a caustic observation in the first place. Since you have no clue the circumstances.

It was not, in my opinion caustic. It was simply an observation. I think two men who are being watched on TV by millions of Americans and are representing the corps should be as absolutely perfect as possible. I stand by that.

  5. According to Donald Bady in his book Colt Automatic Pistols, the Army modified the 1911's flat mainspring housing in 1926 because some soldiers had difficulty keeping the grip safety depressed, especially during recoil when the hand can move on the grip. The arched housing caused the hand to stay higher on the grip. He references original documents. I don't recall if there was any mention of shooting high or low.

  6. I love the 1911, but for the diversity of the troops and ease of breakdown there are other choices that are better. I would go with a .45 from any of the choices but I love the M&P from Smith!

The 1911 is a pistol for someone who will learn all about it, train with it and become very proficient in understanding it's design and idiosyncrasies; special operations troops for example. There are better pistols for general military use. The Sig is a good choice. I do hope they go with 45acp but that may be pie in the sky.
