  1. Many people think the war in the pacific was a marine Corps thing. But the Army was a much larger organization and had more troops in theater. The Crps did the bulk of the amphib assaults.

One of the last two WWI guys in our VFW post was with the 77th. He loved the Thompson on Guam but was lss fond of it in the open country on Okinawa. He was there on IeShima when Ernie Pyle was killed.

  2. There's a monument to the 77th Infantry Division here on Guam. Apparently they participated in a lot of the island campaigns.

My father in law was in most of them. Woubede twice on Oki and evecuated. Finished the war in the hospital in Atlanta. Passed away last year at 90. He loved the 77th Div cap I gave him.

  3. Lead Monger,

I agree that it was perceived that it needed to be done. Heck, if I lived then I would have probably been all for it. It's just an unfortunate part of our history.

We will never know if interring those folks actually helped save American lives. It may have.

That d*** auto correct thing drives me nuts...thought I disabled it...

No, it saved no lives. Note the record of the Japanese americans who served, for example the 442nd RCT. Most decoated unit in the Army. The Japanese immigrants were so determined to be Americans that many of their children were not even taught Japanese. When the military tried to recruit interpreters from the camps they found many young men who they thought would be fluent spoke only broken Japanese. They had to actually be sent to language school.

And it's very telling that although the Japanese were interned, There were no camps for German or Italians.

  4. This is not a debate or "Category creation by committee". It was created by a group of people who were interested in Steampunk, and people who said "I don't like steampunk and wouldn't shoot it", or "I don't think it has anyplace in SASS" were SPECIFICALLY NOT consulted.

No gunfighter? Because I said so.

I firmly believe that gunfighers should only shoot against other gunfighters. That's why they have their own categories.

If you don't agree, start your own unofficial category.

You expected not to receive any questions or criticism here on the Wire??

    :D

  5. I respectfully disagree Bob, I also honor his service to our country but all Seamus and I was pointing out was that as Ohio residents we had to put up with his dismal anti-gun votes. He was a liberal who fought conservatives tooth and nail. It was a real PITA to have him as a senator! I wish his family the best.

    RIP Mr. Glenn :FlagAm:

This is neither the time nor the place in my opinion.
