"Six Frigates: The Epic History of the Founding of the US Navy" by Ian Toll

Despite being a time frame I am not normally interested in, the book was very good and well written and I had a hard time putting it down at night.  It covers both the 6 original frigates of the US Navy and the politics and history from just before their building until the end of the War of 1812.

 

As an aside, today's politics are very divisive, but in reading the book, the politics of that time period were as bad, if not worse.
