Widder, SASS #59054
For those who shoot the C45S, if you have some 'original' Vaqueros or 1894 Marlin (modified to shoot the C45S cartridge), you might be interested in this information. The 10mm in a pistol is roughly rated 1100 - 1200 fps with the 180 bullet. A little more speed might be obtainable with a couple powders loaded on the hot side. Because the C45S case is basically the same size as the .45 ACP and the .45 SUPER case, I loaded up some C45S cases using .45 SUPER load data with powders 'Power Pistol' and 'AA7'. I chronographed both 185 and 200 grain bullets. I won't post actually load data but will advise anyone interested to check out available .45 SUPER load info from reloading data listed on various powder manufacturers web sites or booklets. Please don't PM me and ask about my data. I prefer you use manufacturers info. Then I chronographed those loads shooting them in my modified 1894 Marlin with a 16.25" barrel. Velocities (measured at approx 6 ft. from the muzzle) averaged: 185 Speer Gold Dot HP......... 1306 fps Power Pistol 185 Hornady XTP ................. 1332 fps Power Pistol 185 Hornady XTP ................. 1203 fps AA7 200 Speer Gold Dot HP ....... 1103 fps Power Pistol These specially loaded C45S stuff makes some SERIOUS close range Coyote medicine. Just thought I would share the info. ..........Widder
