Uberti / Taylor Grips

Recommended Posts

Yes, but the chance of getting any grip, whether aftermarket or Uberti, that fits perfectly will be low. If you try a Cattleman grip that was previously fitted to a gun it might fit a bit better than a brand new Cattleman grip.

Probably, though "close enough" is a subjective term. There may be some sharp edges here or there where the wood overlaps the steel. You can "roll over" those sharp edges with a rounded tool of some sort to take away some of the sharpness. I have a few guns with grips that don't fit perfectly but it's okay with me. Mostly I want the backstrap fit to be smooth. A little edge along the front strap or butt I don't mind so much.

It is pretty easy to sand the grips to be a perfect fit but that will go through the grip's finish. I've done this to some grips and then just strip off the rest of the finish and restain and give them a hand-rubbed oil finish. Or, I think you can buy unfinished grips from VTI.
