sureshot2040 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I have a marlin 1895cb in 45-70 Will it have to be drilled and tapped for this sight? Do I have to worry about the bolt hitting the sight while working the action? Thanks Sureshot
Litl Red Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I have a marlin 1895cb in 45-70 Will it have to be drilled and tapped for this sight? Do I have to worry about the bolt hitting the sight while working the action? Thanks Sureshot http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/Cowboy/1895Cowboy.asp In the description of the rifle, they say, "Serial number is on left side of receiver, instead of tang, allowing custom installation of a tang sight by a competent gunsmith." I've never seen a 45-70 Marlin with a tang sight but have seen a handful of them in 38-55. The bolts come awfully close. The sights are mounted "downhill" too. Of course, Marlin suggests there is at least something that'll work.
AZCarebear Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Sorry been away from computer. I have an 1894 and would have to have one hole drilled. The sight bracket is short enough that it won't cover the serial number. If you would like, send me your email address and I'll send you some pictures. Like Ltl Red stated "installation of a tang sight by a competent gunsmith."
Chili Ron Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Howdy, A while back someone commented that one screw will hold that tang sight if you put elmers glue or something similar under the sight base. You don't absolutely HAVE to drill a second hole. A few years back I had a marlin drilled for the second screw and the action went all the way back to marlin to have the serial number put on the side of the action. When drilled the hole JUST missed the number. You could always try the one screw and glue idea and if it didn't work for you then spend money for drilling and moving the number if needed. Rusty Marlin did the work for me, very competent but sometimes too busy with a real job to work on marlins. Best CR ps-its more ezpensive but the Marbles sight has windage adjustments which you may never need for the cowboy game....
