Col. Nathan C. Riddles, SASS # 7462
Some new gun laws went into effect on Sunday the 1st.Public & private universities and colleges cannot pass regulations to prevent CHL holding students, staff & visitors from keeping a firearm in their locked POV parked on campus. 2. New mandatory classroom hours for a CHL are cut from 10-15 to 4-6. The range requirements will remain the same. 3, From 1995 to present, there was a gun type designation on the license SA for semi-auto or R for revolver. If you took the range qualification course with a SA you could carry any type of handgun you wished. If you qualified with a revolver you were restricted to revolver carry only. There will no longer be a type designation. 4. From the inception of the CHL in Texas until this week if the wind blew your jacket open or you bent over to put groceries in the trunk of your car and your shirt rode up, putting your gun on public view, you could be charged with brandishing a weapon and your license suspended. That is no longer true as long as the display was unintentional. 5. This is a significant change. From '95 to present you had to take a refresher course, both classroom and range. Now that is no longer required. You will receive a form that you have to fill out and sign stating that you have kept up with any changes in the laws relating to concealed carry. They'll probably have it on the DPS CHL website because you can renew your license online. This is a big step forward for Texas IMHO. Link to comment
