Poverty Bill, SASS# 45790
Howdy, have a nice book for sale. "Lost Trails Of The Cimarron" by Harry E. Chrismanhe "Lost Trails Of The Cimarron records the findings of nearly a lifetime spent collecting original materials about the great cattle days of the High Plains Southwest, the Neutral Strip, southwest Kansas, and the Panhandle areas of Texas and Oklahoma. Here were centered the vast movements of cattle over immense grasslands - to Dodge City and other railheads for shipment or on the tails to Nebraska, the Dakotas, Wyoming, and Montana. And here developed the important ranches of "the sea of grass." Harry E. Chrisman starts his account with the buffalo hunting days, which effectively destroyed the use of the lands by buffalo and Indians. Then he outlines the trails and the movement of the trail herds toward Dodge City or beyond. The remainder of the book is devoted to accounts of the men and ranches and towns (many of them now ghost sites) which made this area a vast economy based on grass and beef. With the economy came a whole way of life, on range and in town, detailed by stories gained first-hand from survivors. Lost Trails Of The Comarron pictures completely this bygone day which was unique upon the North American continent and can return no more - the important and the lowly people, the customs, the bad deeds and the good deeds, the brawling, tough, but often kindly days of a special civilization. More than forty pictures and maps add to the intimacy of this great account." copyright 1961 first edition author signed 5 7/8" x 8 3/4" tall 304 pages book is in near excellent condition dust jacket is also very good + with some light shelf wear $23.00 shipped to you (media rate) in the U.S.A.
