Driftwood Johnson, SASS #38283
Howdy When I was a kid growing up in the wilds of New Jersey, one day my 6th grade class took a trip to the Thomas Edison museum in West Orange. I clearly remember the replica of Edison's Black Maria movie studio. It was an ugly, black tar paper building, built on a turntable so it could be rotated to face the sun, and a section of the roof opened up to allow sunlight in. Here is a photo of the original. By the way, it was pronounced mah reye uh, not mah ree uh. Black Maria One of the performers who Edison captured on film was Annie Oakley. Here is a link to the movie. Yes, she is shooting very close, but the building was not very wide. I suspect her assistant is her husband, Frank Butler.
