  1. A Flying V would be more effective!!
  2. Hard to believe, coming out of the 9th!! I hope this kind of logic is a new and continuing trend!!
  3. Best wishes, Trailrider!! May the good Lord guide your doctors’ hands!!
  4. Read that this morning!! Could it be that, at least for the near future, the bureaucrats are being put under control?? I have noticed that changes in policy and rulings by the judiciary are reigning in some of these career “public servants”,(also known as DRONES) and removing their stingers!! It’s happening in other branches of government oversight and regulation too!!
  5. You needn’t worry!! You don’t understand him any better than the rest of us!!
  6. If you’re on city sewer, your waste water no longer goes to your septic system! Those chemicals in the volume needed to keep the toilet clean might possibly cause problems with a septic tank system. I can’t say what damage it might cause to your plumbing and the city sewer system.
  7. Hey, Hardpan!! A good paper weight if you have room for it on the desk! I’d make some sort of ornament for my shop/man cave!
  8. This video shows how babbit bearings are poured and finished. There are some other things included in the video, involving hotrodding a Model A Ford engine. The first part of the video shows what is involved. This process was used well into the 1940s and later in the automotive industry! EDIT: Think of this as cap ‘n’ ball versus cartridge. Today’s bearing inserts would be the cartridge version!
  9. Babbit metal, used for poured babbit bearings. You have the remnants of what is fast becoming a totally lost art!!
  10. ^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS!!!^^^^^^^^^^ 🤣
  11. HECK!! Ya’ don’t even NEED teeth to eat grits!! 🤪
  12. NOPE!! Instant or quick grits don’t have the consistency or flavor of real regularly prepared grits. They are far more grainy and won’t take on as much flavor from other added ingredients like butter or bacon. Like Cypress Sun said, they’re far short of real grits and would likely disappoint a first time taster, leaving them to possibly get the wrong impression! Actually, I didn’t encounter them until we moved back to Tennessee about the time I started junior high. My first experience was at my aunt’s place. She salted, buttered, and peppered them before serving and I wasn’t impressed. She served them plain the next morning and I added some honey and butter. I was hooked!! Later came cinnamon and then I tried ‘em with butter and bacon. Next was butter with sausage gravy! All of these were winners! A trip to Louisiana put me onto shrimp and grits and I discovered a half dozen ways that this dish could be prepared! I STILL don’t do the salt thing. If I add bacon and black pepper to buttered grits I get all the salt I want or need. Part of that is probably the result of having intentionally reduced my use of salt at the table some forty years ago. I’ll add black pepper or cayenne or other herbs instead. I like basil or oregano, for example.
  13. NOT EVEN!!
  14. The Californication is nearing completion!! It’s a damned shame that a pioneer state is becoming a totalitarian police state where the law abiding citizen is criminalized and the criminal is given free reign!!
  15. I used to do a big batch of authentic chili for the gang at Possum Trot a time or two a year. I’ve done jambalaya a few times at some events as well and a spaghetti dinner at Ponderosa Pines once for the old Smokeout In The Hills black powder match. Lately, I haven’t done much big batch cookin’. I really don’t have the facilities to do all the preparation and a way to transport all the stuff.
