Gun belt question

Why aren't gun belts made like regular belts? A regular belt has the buckle on one end and the holes on the other. But a gun belt has the ends of the main part sliding into each other and the two smaller pieces of leather sewn to it that has the buckle and the holes. Just wondering.

Actually they are made in both styles, the style you describe is sometimes referred to as a ranger style. The ranger style is supposed to be a more "anchored" type belt. The other style is easier to bend over while wearing.
