Cap'n Highpockets
I am considering buying an L.C.Smith (made by Hunter Arms). Problem is the gun is really hard to open after firing. Any info on a DIY fix would be greatly appreciated.
Wolfgang, SASS #53480
Thoughts . . . . It opens Ok with chambers empty ? Are the firing pins retracting ? ie. the springs that retract them Ok ? Do the hammers rebound ? or are they staying resting agains the firing pins ? Cabalero Chuck
BTT Cap'n, In the chance that you were not aware of these folks, I will supply some pertinant links below. Site index page with some good links on the right side: http://www.lcsmith.org/index.html Dating by serial number: http://lcsmith.org/serial.php?error=1 Year of manufacture serialization chart: http://lcsmith.org/shotguns/manufacture.html And finally, a link to the order page for the L.C. Smith lock spring tool : http://www.lcsmith.org/tool.html After initially posting this reply, I came across an additional page of interest, the next link gives detailed information as to what the grade markings mean: http://www.lcsmith.org/shotguns/grades.html That tool is the same profile as the one that MidwayUSA sells for better than $30.00 . Speaking of MidwayUSA, they will sell you the Radocy take-down pamphlet for the L.C. Smith hammerless SxS for $4.99. That's a good buy when compared to what others charge. I looked at one during a gun show last week, and it will guide you through dismantle/reassemble the gun. Indespensible

Wolfgang, SASS #53480
Cabolaro Chuck . . thanks for posting the L.C. Smith / Hunter arms links. I recently aquired a "wall hanger" with pitted damascus barrels that I've converted to .410 with inserts. Good links.
