John William McCandles #963
Any one now who made this hat for him? I've found some that are close but made in black. Haven't been able to see the movie as of yet but Sierra Sue and I plan to on New Years day. Regards JW
Gus Blazer, SASS #74376
Just saw the movie last night, don't remember Brolin (Cheney) wearing a hat. He may have at some point but I don't remember it. Interesting and I never realized it when the 69 True Grit came out but Cheney is the name of my ancestors clan, to who the original Mr. Blaser was related by friendship if not blood. Cheney in True Grit though appears to be an alias, imagine that.

SaukValley Sam Nope, that's not it. It's more like a Ranch King "Reno" or Bailey "Dillinger" but in an acorn color. Here's a link to a picture on e-bay of it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISup...em=320633178424 If it will work, if not do an ebay search for item number 320633178424. Capt. George Baylor SASS#24287L
I don't remember Chaney's hat, and I couldn't find any pictures of it in the IMDB slideshow or the trailer. I'm a hatohoulic, though, and certainly noticed LeBoeuf's hat. I wear a double buckle hat band that Jack Houston made for me. It was in the 1895 Monkey Wards catalog, and I have a picture of a cowboy wearing one in the 1880s. The maker of LeBoeuf's made his look more like the one in the photo with the square brass buckles. It looked very authentic. His hat looked like a 5" crowned Boss of the Plains with a hand curl on the right side, much like the one in Texas Ranger Sergeant Jim Gillett's photo from 1878. The hatmaker might have used that for inspiration. It looks much like it. The color looks like natural beaver. The crown looks like one of my Boss of the Plains after I handled it when wet. I left the creases in for character. I've been very successful giving photos of the original hats I wanted duplicated to Dave at D Bar J. I didn't see anything in the movie he couldn't do.
