Hello, I'm going a little crazy trying to find a gunsmith who can do some basic revolver work like adding a "Colt black powder" bevel to the cylinder. Can anyone recommend a smith (who isn't retired or booked out for 2 years ) Thanks for any leads. Dave

I picked these up in Clearfield yesterday. The Wranglers came from Grice Gun Shop and the ammo came from WalMart. I plan to use these for practice and possibly a shoot or two with my Henry .22 lever gun.

Here's the dilemma. Ruger New Vaquero, Montado actually, has decided to lock up when the loading gate is opened. If you play around long enough to get it freed up and pull the hammer back to locked position- the cylinder turns freely as if it were in "loading mode" (with the hammer down and loading gate open). After completely disassembling it, I can't find anything obviously, to my eye anyway, wrong. Anybody dealt with this issue, before??

Hello all, I am looking for my second pistol in my SASS rig. I love the feel of the Ruger Blackhawks (old and new). I found this one ... Ruger Blackhawk Flattop 5244 ... and am wondering if it possible to remove the rear sight. If so, does that make the pistol "legal" for SASS shooting? If it doesn't why not? I am in learning / acquisition mode and am very interested in learning. Thank you in advance for your help.

I'd like some advice. I am interested in buying a lever action rifle and single action revolver (ideally in the same caliber, but not required). I'm a Marine and have a lot of experience with semi-automatics, but little experience with revolvers or lever action rifles. I primarily want them for novelty and fun shooting, which makes me think I should get a pistol caliber such as 357 or 45 LC 1873 or 1892 Winchester. I have no experience with these types of guns, so I don't know what else they are well suited for besides Cowboy Action Shooting, which I'd enjoy getting into someday. So essentially I'm wondering (to figure out which brand/caliber would be best): 1. Which is better between the 1873 and 1892? I've heard that the 1873 has a smoother action, and the 1892 has a stronger action (Although I admit I don't really understand what that means). 2. If I want to use the rifle for hunting, would the 30-30 caliber 1894 be better? 3. For the 1892, is the Chiappa Alaskan Takedown better or worse than the Winchester? 4. Rifle vs carbine vs musket argument? (Picture of musket attached) 5. For the pistol, which is better between Ruger Vaquero and Uberti? Or is there a better one than those? 6. Do Cowboy Action Shooters shoot a lower caliber so they can shoot faster and more accurately? (Such as using a 357 pistol with 38 special rounds in it). Or do they typically go 45 LC or 44-40 for authenticity?

This may be a silly question: I’m looking for grips for my wife’s pair of .32 H&R Single Sixes. Eagle Grips shows grips available for the “Baby Vaquero” in .32, and I’ve seen references to the Baby Vaquero on Gunblast.com and elsewhere. I’m pretty sure that these are two names for the same gun, but want to be sure before I place an order. Can someone confirm this is the case?

I emailed Ruger customer service and they were kind enough to provide me with a list of Vaquero model numbers currently legal to purchase in Massachusetts... 0538, 0539, 0590, 0592, 0521, 0523, 0536, 0537, 0546, 0547, 0548, 0549, 0556, 0557, 0575, 0576, 0577, 0579, 0589, 0591, 5101, 5102, 5103, 5104, 5105, 5106, 5107, 5108, 5109, 5112, 5113, 5122, 5123, 5129, 5130, 5133, 5134, 8863, 10514 ...and before some grizzled old curmudgeon points out this information is already available I found the PDF list to be a bit cumbersome when searching for model number only (since they're ordered differently).

New member in the midst of acquiring new gear. I want to give a big thanks to all of those over-the-top friendly folks at Ruckus in the Nations for showing a couple of greenhorns the ropes. My boyfriend (Sargent Saywut) and i attended in the hopes of picking up a few pointers and we were not disappointed. A special thanks to Better Half and her partner for allowing us to handle ther weapons and explaining a few things to us. It was invaluable and the information was soaked up like a dry sponge that had been left in the desert for too long. There were a few others that aided us in our quest but I apologize for not recalling your aliases. So if you saw a couple of newbies that looked a bit lost and got us back on track, thank you also. The rumors of this being the friendliest sport are all true. Well, this weekend "Sarge" presented me with the sweetest gift. As to their helpful advice and guidance, i was given a pair of Ruger Vaqueros with the smoothest action job done by Jimmy Spurs of Cowboy Gunworks. They are a beautiful pair that received the first ammo feeding and i was ecstatic at how well they performed. I am SO excited to being one step closer to my first match!

Just purchased a set of SS 32 Ruger H&R magnums and need reloading help. I shoot 38s now and have enough federal small pistol magnum primers and trailboss powder. I need help help with the grains of powder I would use with 32 long magnum Starline brass, wadcutter cowboy coated bullets 100 grain, TRAILBOSS powder and federal small pistol magnum primers. Howdy! So I'm in the market for a new pistola and am looking for feedback. Of course I am familiar with the major player; Colt, Uberti, Pietta and Ruger. My question is there any other small independent manufacturers out there making Colt clones? I would like a little better quality then your basic Uberti/petta and can't afford a Colt. I have about a $1000 - $1500 to spend. Unfortunately I am not comfortable with the feel of the Ruger and really like the true design if the original SAA. Any ideas? Ideally I am looking for a 5.5 Nickel 45 lc. Thanks!

I have a Ruger Old Army on the way. (Still need one to complete a brace; Looking for a nice blued 7.5"). What do I need to be competitive with this firearm? Can I shoot Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter with these even tho there is no cartridges? Which holsters do you guys use? Which accessories make life easier with them? Thanks.

Hello all, Just a note to people who, like me, perhaps, shoot dualist, double duelist, or gunfighter. I am not petite, yet I found it a bit difficult/uncomfortable to reach for the hammers with my thumb with one hand only, so I bought two Blackhawk hammers from Jim Bowie http://cowboysandindianstore.com/ and put them in. I watched 2 online videos, YouTube, to help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU8E2EC7X68 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgK2aM8EbLM It took me an hour and twenty minutes, but it was my first time, and it worked so well, that I put my little 1/8 slot screwdriver and the little punch I used in my cart. The net result is the lower Blackhawk hammer is easier for me to reach and pull. Thanks Jim. Aunt Jen

Hey guys, i'm thinking about getting into the world of single action revolvers. have done quite a bit of research and have narrowed down the caliber i want but need some info on one important subject, Brand. I like the Ruger Vaquero for the contact bar type firing pin, but when i went to get more info from bass pro shop (only gun related place near me) i was told that more and more people are going with Uberti's, and a reason people might like the Vaquero due to the extra firing pin and safety parts compared to a Uberti. Can anyone give a new guy some helpful advice? thanks very much

Through my own stupid fault I really messed up one of my SASS Vaqueros practicing. I felt I had bent the frame and no matter what I did the gun was hopelessly broken. What do I do? Send it off to a gunsmith for six months, have one of my local gunsmith hacks work on it (they all had an opinion) or just put it aside and decide later? I called Ruger and got a verification number. Sent gun in and they received it on August 3. I got a call from a Ruger gunsmith on August 6. I received the repaired gun back on August 11. No charge, and it was my fault. That is probably the best service I have ever gotten in my 68 yrs. I thought it would take months especially at this time of the year. Less than two weeks is awesome. I've shot SASS for about ten years and shoot a lot. I shot Colts and Colt clones because I didn't like the feel of the NM Vaquero. A little over a year ago I shot a friends set and bought my own. Put the Colts away and won't look back. I am definitely a Ruger customer for life. Thanks Ruger.

I'm trying to figure out aftermarket grip options for a Ruger Single Six birdshead in .32 H&R Mag. I'm looking at Eagle's gunfighter grips, having handled them in the past on a plowhandled Vaquero. I emailed Eagle to ask if they had gunfighter grips for the Single Six birdshead and their answer was sort of vague- simply that their gunfighter grips would fit Ruger guns. So, does anyone know if Eagle's grips will fit this gun? Is the grip frame the same as the one for the birdshead Vaquero (I don't have one for comparison...), or are they sized differently?

I used my new Ruger Bisleys 45LCs yesterday in a match and had a number of hit primers with no bang. I just had the action worked and I think the hammer spring is either too light or a am using the wrong primer. My questions is: Do I replace the spring or switch from Winchester to Federal primers? I have a number of Winchester primers that I guess I will use for practice ammo if the forum tells me to switch.
