  1. I had a lead man at a company that I worked at as the Maintenance Supervisor that was Hispanic and spoke English and Spanish. He was a conceited A*****E that went to upper management and undermined me and tried to get them to give him my job and terminate me on several occasions. About half the maintenance crew spoke Spanish as their first language and their English was not very good. Any time he was talking to the guys that mostly spoke Spanish and he saw me coming, he would switch to Spanish as he knew I did not speak Spanish. What he did not know was I had taken one year of Spanish in High school and had worked with enough Spanish people that I could translate most things into English if it had to to do with problems with equipment.

One day I was walking up to the shop and he saw me coming and switched to Spanish to discuss a problem with a machine with 2 of the Spanish mechanics. I walked up to them and stopped and listened to their conversation for a minute, and then told them in English which circuit was messed up and what they need to check and replace to get it running. Their mouths dropped open and I turned and started to walk away as I had work to do.

I got about 5 steps away when the lead man said loudly" Since when do you speak Spanish!!!??"

I stopped, turned around and looked at them and said " You all have no idea what I can do."

I turned and walked away and i could feel their eyes staring at my back.

It cured him of speaking Spanish when I was around since he did not know for certain I did not understand what he was saying.

However, he did not ever quit undermining me to management.

However, I had the last laugh on all of them.

The company was bought out about a year later and all management except 3 people were let go ( myself included), and he got to keep his job as lead mechanic since he was not considered management. This was on a Friday. I cleaned out my office on Saturday and went back on Monday afternoon to turn the severance package I was given so I did not sue the company for wrongful discharge. The HR Manager ( Politically correct anti-gun Hispanic Lady that hated me and tried to fire me for talking about my vacation Cowboy Shooting at work. (several long different stories here)) told me I might be lucky and find a job in a couple months and I should have a lawyer review the agreement before signing it. I looked at her and laughed and proceed to tell her I had interviewed with a Fortune 500 company that morning as a maintenance supervisor and once I did the paperwork, I would be starting with them on the following Monday. I then told her I would be back to pickup my severance check on Friday ($10,000+ in Nov 2000). She was so mad when I walked out she could not speak. It is always good to have friends in industry with job openings.

  2. While my Mother's family was in Southern Illinois, My Dad grew up in St. Louis on the other side of the river.

He got a union job at Coca Cola for a while in high school. It paid almost triple ( $2.50 hr in the 1956) of what his step-father was making as a boilermaker.. A relative had talked to Mr Egan on my father's behalf and my father received a phone call telling him where to show up and what time to be there to start his shift.  Coca Cola was a closed union.

  3. I  was born in Southern Illinois (Wayne County) and I know the stories about the gangs. Some of them were located in Wayne County and on the other side of the highway from where I currently live. ( The area is called Pond Creek)  I was hunting with a friend one time in that area in the 1980's and we had heard some noise on the other side of the hill from us and then somebody started firing a full auto Thompson Machine Gun. We decided it was time to head home and I did not hunt that area again.

There is a book called Blood Williamson that describes the fights during that time from in Southern Illinois that is a good read.

The Shelton Gang ran Wayne County and was still around in the 1960's. My grandmother got picked for the jury for the trial on Black Charlie Harris but got out jury duty for the trial as my Dad's grandfather died the week of the trial and she had to watch me and my sister while my parents  when to St Louis for the funeral.

There is a good book on them called the Brothers Notorious.

Video interview of the author. https://www.c-span.org/video/?416946-1/brothers-notorious#

Somebody buy these as I have been spending too much money lately.

    Bump for a friend.

yall are all nuts!! I mean that in a good way. Lets say 28 shooters that's enough for two posse's.

MadDog you'll be the man in Black when your done with this match.

I have gotten a Nickel Stoger in 12ga for the Plainsmatch and Sidekick is picking up 3 black powder revolvers for me and 12 ga reloader at EOT that I got here on the wire. Since I have my trapdoor, I have the guns now for Plainsman match and if I can figure out how to make the ammo, I am good to go. I am begining to think I will see if I can load some black for my regular match rifle that I may shoot Frontiersman. I will figure it out in the couple weeks.

  6. When I go in to a restaurant I tell them I want a corner in the back by the wall. They look at me funny and will try to seat me in the middle of the room in a crowd. Usually I end up telling them that I don't hear well and I want a quiet place so I can talk to the person I am with. Most of the time it works.

I was in a restaurant with my Mom and Dad a while back and they seated us under a TV that was blasting and a bunch that was watching a game on it. The girl came up and asked for our order and my dad and I just looked at her and never heard a word she said. She looked kinda irritated and repeated herself and my mom spoke up and to her neither of us could hear her over the noise. She got them to turn the tv down and talked louder when she came back. The manager came over an offered a different table but there was no anywhere in the place that was any better. The hard part for me was she had a voice that blended into the noise that was hard to pick out.

Most of the time I am ok but the ringing in my ears get really loud sometimes and other times it is quieter. It started when I was about 14 and a bicycle tire blew out when I was airing it up with the air compressor. Shooting and working in factory years without hearing protection has not helped.

  7. Thanks everybody.

I usually buy shotgun shells as work interferes with my time to get stuff done. I use cheap promotional loads for local matches, and trap, and AA or STS for big matches. I will probably just order 2 or 3 boxes to start, then if I find I need more, I have several 100 AA hulls or I will get some brass hulls and try making some.

  8. Does anybody know where I can buy some 20ga Black powder shells?

I will be shooting black powder some this year and I only have 20ga shotguns.

I am looking for shells with black powder or Black powder substitute.

I don't reload shotgun shells and would need like 6-10 boxes.

  9. Twenty Dollars Apiece

On their wedding night, the young bride approached her new husband and asked for $20.00 for their first lovemaking encounter. In his highly aroused state, her husband readily agreed.

This scenario was repeated each time they made love, for more than 30 years, with him thinking that it was a cute way for her to afford new clothes and other incidentals that she needed.

Arriving home around noon one day, she was surprised to find her husband in a very drunken state. During the next few minutes, he explained that his employer was going through a process of corporate downsizing, and he had been let go. It was unlikely that, at the age of 59, he'd be able to find another position that paid anywhere near what he'd been earning, and therefore, they were financially ruined.

Calmly, his wife handed him a bank book which showed more than thirty years of steady deposits and interest totaling nearly $1 million. Then she showed him certificates of deposits issued by the bank which were worth over $2 million, and informed him that they were one of the largest depositors in the bank.

She explained that for the more than three decades she had 'charged' him for sex, these holdings had multiplied and these were the results of her savings and investments.

Faced with evidence of cash and investments worth over $3 million, her husband was so astounded he could barely speak, but finally he found his voice and blurted out, 'If I'd had any idea what you were doing, I would have given you all my business!'

    That's when she shot him.

You know, sometimes, men just don't know when to keep their mouths shut.

  10. Let's add an Indian Category !!! (or Native American).

All targets must be shot with a Bow and Arrow and any Knock targets must be knocked down with a tomahawk.

You must dress period correct (historically accurate)for the category ( Dress code to be debated at a later date.)

The category can be split in to modern (Compound Bows)and Traditional(standard bows).

All arrows must be completely made of wood to prevent sparks for using metal or flint arrowheads.

The timer stops when it is hit with the tomahawk at the end of the shooting string.

  11. Call SnS Bullet, they are just north of you. I use their 44 200 grain RNFP and they feed fine in all my 44's. If the carrier is a V shape, Change it to one that is a half moon shape, these work better in a 44. Also, change the loading gate with a new one and see if that helps. After that, call Widder and send it to him.

  12. I got one at Wal-Mart after Christmas for $7.50. They were 19.99, then marked down to 15, then $7.50. At one store, the guy told me they stole more of them than they sold. Check in Automotive and electronics, I got my 2 weeks ago when they marked them down and one store had like 40 of them left over. It on the counter at home if you want me to send you a picture of the box or the UPC Code. I have not got around to hooking it up yet.

  13. If you lose 20 lbs, is it found when you gain it back?

I have lost 10lbs since the first of January on the diet I am following,

but every time I open the refrigerator I see where it is hiding and just waiting for me with several of it's friends.

The goal is to lose 130 more (140 total), but was a lot easier to get it than it is to lose it.

  14. I have a hard Plastic one that says Life member on it, I got it back in 1997. My Gold badge shows I am a lifer, so the card has been in my desk drawer since 1997. I think one time they sent me one after that that was not plastic, but not paper, kinda like made out of poster board or real thin plastic. It is in the top drawer of my desk with the other ones. If I was going to EOT, Winter Range or a show with a SASS booth, I would might take it along if I was not wearing my badge.

  15. My son is very much into WWE, He has a book full of autographs, I was with him when he got some of them.

    Charlie Daniels

Somewhere I have a signed album from when he first released The devil went down to Georgia, He was signing them at a K-Mart before the concert.

    Eddie Albert.

He was walking around a mall in Carbondale Il. after he had appeared somewhere at the college promoting Agriculture, He signed a piece of paper for us but not sure where it is any more- Great guy to talk with.

    Ron Howard.

Saw him at Disney World and he had his family with him (1986). I talked to him for a minute (he was ok) and he was trying to keep a low profile but was not having much luck. Later when eating lunch, his family came in and sat across from us and his kid spilled a drink and everybody was making a big deal over him. He really did not want the attention but he was nice about it. I understand why he bought a place in the middle of nowhere and lived there for years.

    Buck Taylor.

Saw him couple different times, Last time we were at Silver Dollar City in Branson and I had just finish shooting at the state shoot and was still dressed in my cowboy clothes. They were having Cowboy days and they told me just to walk on into the park as they thought I was working there. (I bought a ticket) When I got to the area he was, we talked for about an hour and everyone thought I was with his group. He remembered me from the other times we met and I stayed a while helping greeting people and showing his drawings and paintings and talking about SASS. I have several pictures with him and some the people were taking pictures of us together.

I met some different starts at Comic-con in Chicago one year, talked to Lou Ferrigno at his booth but he was only about selling stuff, Some WWE guys were there and were the same way. The bigger name stars ( Christopher Lloyd, Patrick Stewart, LeVar Burton) had long lines and expensive tickets for the lines. (Could not see spending a bunch of money just to meet them)

    Alaina Huffman

She was at comic-con and was on Stargate Universe and she was very nice and got a picture with her. She told us that the cast did not know the show was cancel until they announced it on TV. Everybody was fighting to see the big names and my son and I got to spend some time talking to her.

Those are all I can remember right now.

  16. Prairie Farms dairy use to buy milk from my Grandfather until the late 60's or early 70's until they mandated that all milking had to be done by machines. He had a cooler for storing the milk and they would come by and pick up the milk once or twice a week. I think that he got the cooler from the dairy as I seem to remember the cooler having a Prairie Farms emblem on it. He had a couple of cows that he milked by hand and I tried a couple times when I was 6 or 8 years old but could not get the hang of it. I drank a lot of milk growing up but hated the cream floating in it. Grandma had a pasteurizer and a separator but it did not always get all of the cream out of the milk.

My brother and I was talking about this the other day and he said he could not find the pasteurizer at Grandma's house and we could not agree if the milk cooler was still in the barn. Next time I am in Illinois I am going to see if the milk cooler is in the barn and I told him to ask Grandma about the pasteurizer and see if she knows where it is. Her memory is pretty good for a 102 year old lady and probably knows where it should be in the farm house. If the milk cooler and the milk cans are still there I will post a picture.
