Thanks for the info. But honestly, that souns sounds like just their official marketing blabla story. Arguing with economic points while the market is willing to pay unreasonable prices for this powder doesn't make sense to me. During a time period when primer manufacturers more than doubled their prize tags, what had they could have charged for a unique special application powder that no other competitors has in their portfolio? IMHO, they just weren't technically able to produce it (keyword: REACH compliance). Maybe I'm wrong, but don't ever trust a marketing guy without double-checking. But for whatever reason it disappeared from the shelves, I hope for everyone who waits for TB that it will be back on soon!!

The rep told me that Trail Boss was not impacted by REACH. He said some powders were but a replacement for the impacted compound has been developed. He also said they are focused on the hungry US markets now but when demand slows they will start shipping to the EU.

  2. If the Pietta hand-finished version isn't your cup of tea, Taylor's & Co. is offering a Cerakote version of the SAA clone this year. It reminded me of a Ruger Wrangler in color. If Cerakote is your thing, I recommend checking it out.

  3. I stopped by the EMF/Pietta booth at Shot Show 2024 and they have a new SA Colt close that looks outstanding. My understanding is they are CCH and final finished here in the US. I did not get a price. The CCH is real charcoal and bone, not a chemical treatment. I think they look fantastic. I think they start shipping soon.

  4. I spoke with a Hodgdon rep at the Shot Show today about Trail Boss. He felt it would start shipping again this spring. I expect it will take a long period before the market is saturated and it’s common on the shelf.
he said the reason it’s not currently being made is the contractor that makes it also makes Retumbo and other powders that are a higher profit product. The rep said Trail Boss was a low-profit product because of the extra steps required to make it. He said the contractor was going to make high-profit powders first, then go to the low-profit powders.
I suspect the world shutting down for COVID is a hard hurtle to get over when no money is being made. So, making higher profit powder to recover makes sense. I am seeing Retumbo and other popular target shooter and hunting powders back on the shelf more and more so that falls in line with what he told me.
I expect every bit of Trail Boss to be gobbled up as fast as it hits the shelf until every subsonic shooter feels secure in their stash.

On the bright side, I bought a brick of Federal LPP at CAL Ranch last week for $59.99. They had more but I left them for the next guy.

    18" + 18" = 3'. :P

I actually had .357's before I bought my .45's. I made the switch because the .45's were noticeably lighter.

Fun guns, but you won't be shooting any 25 second stages.

Why does this remind me of a Mel Brooks movie?

If you are looking for something less expensive than a Stetson, you can go to Wild West Mercantile in Mesa. As an EOT Sponsor, they usually print a substantial coupon in the shooters book, but it has to be used the week of EOT. Also try Heritage Hats on Cave Creek Rd. You have to see that place to believe it. I've bought hats at both places and been very pleased with the prices.

The last time I tried to by the hatter out Cave Creek way he was not open on weekends. Make plans accordingly.

    Chelate properly?

Make sure you do your own research.  Don't trust the doctors that want to chelate you without asking some questions.  You might read about Andy Cutler and his protocol for mercury, lead etc.  IV chelation is more aggressive as I understand and well you know what they call the guy that finished last in his Med School class?

    Doctor

Statistically speaking, 50% of all doctors graduated at the bottom of their class.

PLUS ONE for Chola.  Shooting .36s with regular lead ball, I often got called misses cause the "spotters" couldn't "hear" the ball hit a dead target.  I switched to harder cast EPP UG - 36 bullets and get a nice satisfying KLANG for those BLIND spotters.

I used to shoot with a guy that used a .36 C&B. He would always warn the spotters that he was using it and please be alert for hits. I did my best.

Depending on caliber, type and amount of powder, you will get more or less flame, but you always get some.

If you want a LOT of flames, use black.  If you want less, experiment with different smokeless powders till you find what you want.  Or, don't worry about it.

    OR

Get yourself a Sheriff's model in .44-40 and load it with black.  Lotsa fire and smoke.  :)

Back when I used to go the Friendship for the NMLRA spring shoot, they held a night fire to entertain the folks. Fire and Smoke, what a rush I got, as the song goes.

  10. It may depend on your powder. I used to have a .357 that put on a heck of a pyrotechnic show at dusk which was fun. As others have said, check the gap on both revolvers to compare. I have a few Uberti revolvers that have no visible gap, which may cause issues if I use them heavily. There is a reason you are not supposed to hold a revolver around the cylinder with the support hand. Flame can be normal. A gap is required to prevent cylinder drag as carbon builds while shooting.

Secondly, if the average is just under a second faster and you're at a 12 stage Championship match...that's almost 12 seconds. 12 seconds is HUGE!!!!!

    Phantom

Exactly. I used to shoot with three top shooters. They were always competing for the top at the local match, urging each other to do their best, putting in long hours of practice, and attending every match they could for more time behind the gun. One was extremely fast and when he shot in EOT he placed third, but was within ten seconds of first and second place. I agree, one second per stage can make or break a shooter that good.
