I've been looking for a used 3rd gen colt or uberti 1849 for my pocket pistol. It won't win the race but it's sure fun to shoot

Firearms Are Actually Inanimate Objects!
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Subdeacon Joe's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
I'm not buying it. I talk to my Colts all the time and I swear they talk back to me as well. -
will the patriots be cocky ?

It's pretty easy to be confident when you've figured out how to out cheat your opponent. -
Has anyone ever tried hunting with their SASS gun?
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Jed I. Master's topic in SASS Wire
There's a lot of truth here. I have been in the process of helping my buddy choose his first rifle, and one of the initial requirements he had was that it serve dual purpose of hunting and sass. Now this guy has never been hunting, and only shot 3 sass matches. I couldn't seem to talk him out of it, so I had him try out a 92 and a 94 then compare a 73. He liked the 73 more by a lot, but was still going back and forth about the hunting thing. Finally realizing that he was a big time fisherman, I asked him what pole I should buy that would be good at both deep sea fishing and fly fishing. I think he finally got it and is now in search of a 73 haha. -
Mernickle High Performance Rig FS (SOLD)
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Snakebite's topic in SASS Wire Classifieds
It's only money is such a terrible way to live life, says the guy that just bought another colt that will barely see use haha. Seriously, I get what you are saying. I should have realized you had more than a few set ups you already liked. I have another buddy that won a free Mernickle rig at the California state match that shoots cross draw and decided to order the HP rig. I haven't heard back how he likes it yet. One thig is for sure, someone is going to get a hell of a good deal here. Best of luck to ya pard. -
New Single Action

Thanks Driftwood. That explains a lot. It also explains why uberti, cimarron and Taylor's, all have various names like cattleman, model p, etc instead of single action army or peacemaker. -

Out of curiosity, wouldn't it be more cost effective to just get a cross draw holster for that setup? -

El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Jed I. Master's topic in SASS Wire
Well I've shot a few things with my marlin 1895 and then started using it in sass side matches. Does that count? I do plan to use my original Winchester 1873 made in 1887 in 38-40 to hunt one of these days and I occasionally use it in sass. -

Thanks for the post. I couldn't catch where they were located either. And yeah he did call it a 4 3/4 when it was obviously a 5.5". I did have a question about the SAA trademark. Maybe one of the lawyer types will be able to answer, but how is it every gun company in the world can use 1911, but single action army is protected? Is it a case of numbers versus letter? I know absolutely nothing about trademark law. -
Right before I started cas, I was very close to buying a BFR in 45-70. You're right in that for the same price, two six guns can be, and in my case were, had.

New Single Action
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933's topic in SASS Wire
... Thanks for posting that, Larsen, and for explaining the firing pin. I was wondering what was going on there. Is it just me, or does the hammer appear to be wider than a colt? It could just be the angle. And yeah I seriously have a problem paying colt prices for a clone. Even if it's a really great clone. I still do not have any USFA's either. -
The answer to your question regarding custom orders is that it has to be something not offered as a standard model. Currently those are only 45 and 357 in all three barrel lengths and both finishes. So in order to place a custom order, something else needs to be included like different caliber or custom barrel length, engraving, etc. as to why the don't make more, word is there just aren't enough smiths to build them and there's virtually no profit in it. I'm still shocked that they make them at all.

Just Park It There, It Will Be OK

That's impossible. Guns are banned there so nothing to make those billet holes. -
Classified, Your experience.
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Snakebite's topic in SASS Wire Classifieds
At least half of my current gear came from the wire. I also acquired some guns and even sold a few. Those that I've sold have all come at a loss, and yet I couldn't have been happier. The pleasure of dealing with fellow cowboys makes it all worth it. Like others have said, not one problem. -
Maybe the steel is a lot stronger than uberti. I can't recall what my 73 looks like, but if it were an issue I think we would have heard about it by now. They've been around for awhile.

My sentiments exactly, but multiplied 1000 fold. -

It is indeed. About a 15 minutes from my house. I loved that range. The cas shoot was unique for sure. Besides the big bore rifles, 97 or 87's were stoked so you got to run them fast and hard. All targets were much further than sass and had 10 second penalties for missing. They would have some fun stages too, like 15-20 rifle targets and allow 2 rifles or loading on the clock. Same with pistols sometimes. It really was a great match and will be missed. -

I used to shoot at a non-sass club that allowed big bore for main match rifle. I also used my marlin 1895, with black powder too. I could not agree with you more about the thump. Man was that fun. The range closed down though, unfortunately. -
I have a reciprocal relationship with a buddy of mine, and sometimes a few other folks. I reload ammo for them, and they shoot it, in my guns no less. What do I get? Having a buddy to shoot with. I somehow think I am getting the short end of the stick here. It's a tough business finding folks my age to play this game. But one day many years from now when everyone older than me passes on, I don't want to be the only one left playing.

Likewise. I checked after reading about a fellow poster getting one and sure enough there were three, all in 38. One was listed at $1500 I think, but the other two were below msrp. I can't wait to see the 44-40 I talked to someone at customer service about 3 weeks ago as well and she told me that they would be listed in their catalog around February, but no indication when they would be readily available. I wonder how these ones are getting out there already. Some sample ones pushed out ahead of time? I think one of the ones on gun broker was listed as serial number 3

El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to El Hombre Sin Nombre's topic in SASS Wire
Exactly my thinking. A good price too if it's just used for a side match. -
They're already available on gun broker? I figured they wouldn't be readily available until well into this year.
-
I would never say anything disparaging to a cowboy on the range either. I'm just pointing out something that looks ridiculous to my eye here on the wire. Which is exactly what you just did. So what was your point again?

Are you still going to make the California state match this year? Those colt 51's you worked on are running smooth and are rapidly becoming my favorite guns.
