  1. Do a chamber cast before you buy brass, bullets or casting moulds.

A lot of 38-55s have undersized chambers for their bore size.

Does it have a short or long chamber?

    What size is the bore?

Starline Brass will probable be your best bet.

I am setting up a handi riflle in 38-55 and discovered that the bore and throat diameter is 0.380. However the chamber was too small to to chamber a round with a properly sized bullet.

Used a friends chamber reamer to open it up about 0.004 so that a round would chamber. Now I am researching moulds and the rest of the casting equipment along with sights.

  2. I have proof it was rigged. Was working last night and was listening to the game on ESPN live. funny thing was the play by play ticker and the score was updating 3 to 5 minutes before before he audio.

If it wasn't the Russians then it must have been the Democrats are going out of their way to make it look like a Russian conspiracy :P

Sad part was I would have enjoyed it much more had the audio been more like the old radio broadcasts and less like listening to TV without the picture.

  3. When I was still a 1st Lieutenant I was in an Officers Club in Ton Son Nhut. (Spelling?). Another 1st Lieutenant was at the bar bragging about being a West Point graduate and loudly declaring that "mustangers" and ROTC grads were NOT real officers. I listened to that for awhile then told the table that it was my turn to get the drinks.

i walked up to the bar right next to this guy and ordered the drinks, then while I was waiting I turned to him and asked if he was a West Pointer. He turned to the others with him and said "See? It shows". I said "No, it doesn't. I just noticed your class ring while you were picking your nose".

He made the mistake of spinning his bar stool as he turned to swing. He was unconscious before he fell.

    Wasn't even a real fight.

Guess West point didn't teach him all he needed to know.

Biggest hole in their curriculum is they fail to teach that "Youth and speed is no match for old age and treachery".

  4. Thats really Not true at all.

The 92 slicked up right is a excellent cowboy gun .

Most (90%) Shooters can NOT out run a slick 92.

Before the short stroke kits come out for 66 and 92 or Marlin .

The 92 was a fast rifle and a world champion gun.

    So yes a 92 is a good gun .

If you ever get to the point of out running the 92 .

You can sell it for about what you got in too it .

Most keep them becouse they are just about indestructible guns.

A lot of people will say cry once and buy once .

But most people got sucked in too buying a 66 or 73.

Because thats what the Top Shooters use .

But about only 10% of the shooters are in that top class of shooters.

The rest of us merror mortals would be just fine with a 92 .

    If your heart is set on a 66 or a 73 .

    Then by all means ,

It would be cheaper in the long run to wait and save your money.

But if you just want to get out and start shooting Cowboy .

A 92 will serve you well for many years .

    Yes I own a 66 and a 73 and even a 1860 Henry.

But thats because I liked the guns and bought them all used and at a right price .

    I have two 92s .( that I would never part with )

And have used them now for 9 years for Cowboy action shooting.

You dont need to get all caught up in the Myth ,

You MUST have what the top 10% of the shooters in the game shoot .

Buy what you can and have Fun !

    Its just a Game .

PS. So now lets see the BS fly :-)

    +1000

BTW all Rossi 92s will need to be slicked up. Do it yourself if you are mechanically inclined for less than 100.00. (By the parts and video from Steve's Gunz or buy a 92 ready to go from them.

I have 4 and few shooters can out run one.

You will save more time per stage with efficient transitions and smooth SG loading than you will with the difference in times between a 92 and 73 or 66.

  5. There is a cowboy action organization which is a spin-off of SASS. They demand everything be "period correct," from costuming to guns and everything in between. I even heard gun carts were prohibited at one time, but I think that went away. Still, no Rugers or modern cowboy clothing.

You are thinking of the National Congress of Old West Shootists. (NCOWS)

Not as demanding of historical accuracy as you might think although they do have The Originals Class specifically for those who place special emphasis on historical accuracy including camping at an event.

NCOWS allows both original and new Ruger Vaqueros but not Ruger Bisleys. (Approved Firearms list) They do not allow short stroke modifications to rifles or pistols. NCOWS Unapproved list. Gun carts are allowed but they should be constructed of historically accurate materials including the wheels.

NCOWS places more emphasis on accuracy than how fast you can empty your firearm. No in your face targets and misses are worth 10 seconds. By current SASS standards the targets are a lot further away and are typically smaller.

If a person wants historical accuracy then join NCOWS. If a person wants to resemble the old west that hollyweird introduced a vast majority of us to then join SASS.

    NCOWS HISTORY

The National Congress of Old West Shootists was founded in Iowa in 1994 by a group of dedicated western action shooters who had a background in muzzleloading, buckskinning, historical reenacting, and many other of the modern shooting sports. To this end we determined that our new organization would be different from existing organizations in a number of ways: we would insist on historical authenticity in all of our activities, we would not require that our members assume an "alias" (although they may if they wish), and we would be a democratically-structured organization, run by the entire membership.

Since its founding NCOWS has grown slowly but steadily, gradually gaining recognition from the shooting fraternity as a viable and significant organization. Early on there was some misunderstanding on the part of some members at least of The Single Action Shooting Society (SASS ) who believed that NCOWS had been founded in opposition to SASS . NCOWS' original aim was to operate parallel to SASS, doing what we could to promote the growth and development of cowboy/western action shooting which, after all, had been invented by SASS . Although we present NCOWS as an alternative organization to those who desire a greater level of historical authenticity and member involvement in governance than SASS provides, we encourage all of our members to support SASS as well as every other shooting organization.

Since its inception NCOWS has been a Charter organization of the National Rifle Association, and strongly recommends that every NCOWS member also be a member of the NRA. Our liability insurance is provided through the NRA.

  7. Touch a hot pencil tip soldering iron to the screws and warn them up a little.

Be sure the screwdriver tip fits perfectly in length and most importantly width.

    Competent gunsmith after that.
