Favorite rifle?  The one I am shooting at the time. :)

    Front to back:

32-20 deluxe short rifle - mostly BP

.357 charcoal blue carbine (my 1st - won it in 2000 - now a backup)

44-40 charcoal blue carbine - mostly BP

.357 Saddle Rifle 18" - main match smokeless

.45 Trapper carbine 16" - was Wild Bunch until rule change.

How many rounds will Your Trapper 16 45  hold in just the tube ?

  2. The quality of steel and computerized machinery these days .

    All of these guns 60 66 73 92 94 .

They all have to be better quality then the original guns ever was .

I don't know how a original gun in its day and a Modern build gun would hold up against each other in this game .

I don't believe the original guns was ever built with the thought of this many rounds would have ever been put threw a gun .

I have guns that I have fired and used for over 30 years .

I can't even guess how many rounds have put threw this gun or that gun .

  3. Heritage is becoming Taurus's Cowboy Gun Division.

Hence the ( Rossi ) Heritage 92 rifle that everyone thinks is a new gun on the market.

Taurus has owned Rossi for many years now .

They are just moving brands around.

A good Marketing Strategy at this time .

With all the new Tariffs that are coming Heritage is a USA company in Florida that Taurus owns .

  4. That's a decent buy by today's prices .

I used to buy them in the mud 90s for 150 used unfired in the box for 150.00 I probably bought over 100 of them when I used to do gun shows .

Shure do wish I had them all now lol.

    Beautiful set of guns.

I call this my Battery of Ridiculous.   Now, under normal circumstances, 3 out 4 of these guns are not SASS legal, but there is a local club that let's me shoot them for the entertaining value.

    Ridiculous.jpg.42ce2b65ea36c063e27842f4ce36dfb7.jpg

Winchester 92, rebarreled .44 Magnum.  Chiappa 87 "Terminator Model" 12 Gauge, AWA Lightning Bolt, .45 Colt.  Chiappa 92 Mare's Leg .44 Magnum.

Since taking this picture, I've put a "Rio Bravo" loop on the Mare's Leg.   I like to trot this out once a year, just for sheer fun of it.   I may yet enlarge the loop on the shotgun.   We shall see.

Love the Larg Loop 92 .

    John Wayne Style  !

  6. Dawg most of my guns I run stock springs or close to it .

I do that for the fact of primers.

It don't matter what primer I run as far as brand or country it was built in .

    Thay all go bang .

I never seen any difference with APP , Goex , Unique, Universal, H110 or any thing else I have run .

Now on the other hand when your building a Precision round and all the cartridges match and you weigh all the bullets and you weigh every single charge the primers can make a difference at long range target shooting.

    God bless

While we would like to believe that firearm manufactures regard SASS as a major market, the opposite is very likely true.  To be successful in keeping the business running, they need to continually reach as wide of a market as possible and producing a traditional and more modern Lightning catches more than one market.  Their new .44 will certainly be sold to deer hunters looking for a fast gun in the brush.  Yes, the lack of ability to mount a scope may chase a few away but it'll sell.  Heck, I may buy one myself.

Generally speaking, CAS shooters tend to view the firearm world though a knothole expecting manufacturers to only produce what they're interested in.  The reality is that very few firearm owners are interested in collecting the older or unique firearms and obtaining letters.  The numbers of collectors continues to decrease over time so expecting manufacturers to only offer products that fit this knothole is asking them to eventually go out of business.  Does anyone honestly want that?  I sure hope not.

    Until recently.

Very few firearms was purpose built for cowboy action shooting.

We adopted the firearm for our use and Cowboy gunsmith adapted them to run better and better .

None of these lever action rifles or single action pistols was designed to run the way we run them .

I would imagine that the average Cowboy Action Firearms get more rounds threw them then the original guns did in a life time .

If we think about it .

They are pretty tough guns to do what we do with them .

All you need is to buy a Smith shop short Carrier and you have a 44 Russian.

You just put it in one of your 44 Special guns .

  9. It's not all that hard to take a 92 apart.

It's just a lot more involved then a toggle rifle .

For years I would take my 92 apart every couple months to clean really good .

But when I switched to shooting Black Powder full time .

    I switched to using my 66 .

    Obviously easier to clean .

But once you took apart a 92 two or three times .

    It's not a big deal .

If your shooting smokeless powder you really only need to do it once a year or  every couple years .

If your going to shoot BP.

    Buy a 73 or 66 or even a Marlin .
