The OP asked about Red Dot.
I understand he asked about red dot .
But if you said you was looking for a comfortable long distance car to drive the Highway with .
And you asked about this chevy Chevette that you found.
I would hope to think somebody would tell you about a Malibu or Impala instead !

Looking for 1872 Open Top 7 1/2" - anything out there?
What is your caliber preference ?

Not very hard to come up with using any reloading manual.
I would say starting with 8.5g of Unique would be a good place to start .

Not sure what you meant by that remark.
It indeed was standardized years ago...BUT SAAMI still has it standardized as a .427" diameter bullet, and a barrel bore of .4225" and grooves at .4285".My Uberti 73 (and others), uses .428" diameter bullets in a .429" bore. Current industry may have new standards, but not SAAMI.

Original 44-40 was .427
But that got standardized years ago .
I load everything .429
44M 44S 44R & 44-40

I have 73's in 24" 20" 19 "
I have 66's In 24" 20"
I have 94's in 24" 20" 20" 16"
I have Henry's in 24" 20" 20"
I have Marlin's in 24" 20" 16"
I have 92's in 24" 20" 20"
I have to say if I had to only pick one rifle to do everything.
I would keep my 92.

My Uncle had it .
Then My Father had it .
Then my cousin had it .
Now I have had it for about the last 15 years .
Im saving in for my Grandson .
He will one day Own his Great Great Grandfathers gun that has saved his life several times.
And every time he shoots it .
He will know .
He would have never been born if not for that very

I think that's about as famous of a gun as you could ever own .

Im a 44 Man myself.
I load and shoot everything in 44.
I have been shooting SASS for over 13 Years using 44's .
I much prefer to load 44 special or 44 Russian Hell even 44 Magnum over 44-40.
But I do also load 44-40.
99% of my Cowboy loads is 44 Special or 44 Russian.
Both with APP Black Powder Sub or Smokeless.
