  1. I was in Gander Mountain buying a Winchester 9422 .

The guy billing me out was Deuce Stevens .

I was telling him Im a big fan of Single action guns .

And I am a Cowboy at heart.

Deuce asked me if I ever herd of SASS and cowboy action shooting .

    I said NO .

Deuce said there was a shoot that weekend in Rockford.

And I should come check it out .

I went to the shoot and WOW !

This is what Im all about .

Deuce said you will need a Pistol caliber rifle.

And Two Pistols and a Shotgun.

Some holsters and a gun cart .

I said I have everything except a gun cart.

My buddy Scott who is a wood worker said he would help me build a gun cart.

I had a gun cart and was at the next shoot .

I still have the same gun cart.

And five complet sets of guns to play the game.

Im Not in the fast game .

But Im in the fun game for life !

Thank you Steve for all your help threw out the years.

  2. I found mine to be quite accurate, BP fouling needed to be cleaned off the cylinder pin, barrel face and cylinder face after every few stages to keep it running nicely. I widened the rear sights on mine to make front sight acquisition faster. I carried spare parts with me, and had to replace pieces every now and then. (Cheap and easy to get hold of) because it is an old design and we do shoot the heck outa them. Very easy gun to take down and clean or repair.

Cap fragments don't fall into the action as with the Colt design, but can get down between the grip and your palm :o I found that getting aftermarket nipples, like the Slik-X or Treso Ampco and Remington Caps helped a lot.

    Good Shootin'!

What spare parts should I get to have on hand ?

  3. My 58 Remies are very accurate, all 8 of them. The biggest deal is to keep the cylinder face clean and the arbor/base pin lubed. They'll run all day.

    CR

That sounds a little more hopeful,

Then the first two post .

I thought crap what did I just get myself into ?

Just sounded like a lot of fun to Me :-)

  4. This weekend I bought two 1858 sheriff model Remington Army Pistols .

Im already slow and No needing to fight it.

So the way I figure it .

lets see how long I can Make them hold there breath.

I sm going to run these 1858 Remingtons and my Henry 1860 44/40 and my Mule eared 12ga .

    All with Goex BP.

Im have owned a couple ROA in past.

Anything I need to know about Pietta 1858's ?

  5. My Lassiter 87 almost runs it self I load it sometime nice but most of the time I'm clumsy with the shells, pull the trigger and flick the lever and it takes off without any help from me ejecting the hull, I reach out and close it loading the second round then pull the trigger, flick the lever and start the process over or ground the gun depending

I have talked to Lassiter .

Looks like my 87 will be going to him this winter .

  6. Well if you are just starting out .

And you are all about speed ?

    I would go with a 73 or 66 in 38.

    A Pair of Rugers 4-5/8 38's

    And a Winchester 97 .

Im not in too speed , So

Im shooting a pair of Rugers in 44 special

    A 73 44 special

    And a 87 shotgun .

    All with Black Powder .

    200gr bullets .

And a hole lot of fun .

Im slow and make em choke for 40+ Seconeds lol

  7. I thought the shell should be staggered forward.....

.....anyway, I've got 4 months to practice.

    I will give this a try .

    Thank you.

  8. One is a Coyote Cap 20" special. Other one is a 20",don't know who did work on it.I also shoot a Chiappa that finally works after Lassiter did his work on it.Numa

Im going to play with this a little my self .

But I am thinking I am going to send it out to Lassiter this winter :-)

  9. your 87 will (should) like the cut down shells.. My China 87's seem to do better with them.. Ran regular crimps fine, just seem to work a touch better with the roll.

Have been shooting 87 for bout 10 yrs both black and smokeless.

And yes, run them hard. I shoot from the hip with mine. Have fun with it

    Numa

    Is your 87 stock ?

Or who did you have work on it ?

Im going to try both .

But I think the shorter shell with the roll crimp,

Will make things go a little smoother.

I cant wait till Im back on my feet .

So I can get back out and play !
