Walt, did you reply to me, and sell me your 1897 and have me send you a wire transfere? Someone with a 502-325-9223 number contacted me via text.

    Smokewagon Grampies

whoever contacted you was not me.   The shotgun was sold FTF locally.   They are trying to scam you.  My area code is 260.   My suggestion would be to call the number that the text is from and confront them.   My guess is that they will not answer.

I got this from an estate.   I was told that is was unfired, and i see no reason to doubt their claim.  It looks to be New In Box.  Excellent shotgun for the load 2 conversion.   You are starting with a gun that has not been messed with, and much cheaper than a Chiappa.

Asking $700 plus shipping to your FFL as long as they accept shipment from a private individual.   I would be glad to meet in NE Indiana or neighboring state for a FTF deal.

  3.  SOLDI have a solid frame 1897 shotgun for sale.   It is not working, it is for parts only.   j

I gave it to a local gunsmith to convert it to a trench gun clone.   It was supposed to be  cerakoted dark grey, and barrel cut down to 20 inches, and the underside of the barrel had three groves milled in it for the retainer screws for the heatshield.  The coating is a lighter grey than I expected, and when I got it back it did not work.   Initially, the action would work and I would get occasional misfires, but now the action is really rough and it is hard to close the action after cocking.  $350 plus shipping to your FFL as long as they will accept shipment from private individuals, or FTF in NE Indiana or surrounding area. I believe that I can ship directly to a C&R holder as well.

It does not have the ejector, or the heat shield for the barrel.  It had a new left extractor as well.   I am tired of messing with it.

  4. I am not sure if you are asking who did the work?   Cowboy Carty of Western Gunworks did the action job.   https://www.facebook.com/people/Western-Gun-Works/100063633086433/

For those that don't know, his conversions are the considered the best of the best for the Marlin short strokes.  He completely reworks the action, and that stroke is super short on these.  I think that he even reshapes the trigger.  The reliability is incredible.   The only thing that you  is the OAL.   This rifle needs to have the 38 specials loaded at 1.450 or shorter.   I usually loaded 1.430 to be safe.   I have found that it reliably feeds all of the bullet types that I have tried (TC, RN, RNFP).

Not only that, you can open the lever with your little finger, so it is super fast.

He is also still in business, and if it ever malfunctions, he will be there for a quick repair.

The only Marlin job that is close is the Widdermaker jobs, and they retain the normal length of throw for the lever.

The Carty and Spur Marlins are the absolute best Marlins for Cowboy Action.

I am not shooting a lot of matches lately and have not shot B-Western or this rifle in years, so it is time to send it off to a new home.  This rifle has been flawless in its operation, and has been equally reliable with round nose bullets and TC bullets loaded shorter than 1.430.

It is in great shape.  All of the screws are in great shape and not deformed at all, and I always used a different buttstock, so this buttstock is in very nice shape.  All of the bluing is in very nice shape as well. It is obviously a JM Marlin.

A FTF deal in NE Indiana would be preferred so that the buyer could personally inspect and/or shoot it.    I would gladly provide ammo for a test fire.  I would be glad to ship as well as long as your FFL holder will accept shipment from a private individual with a copy of my ID provided.

Asking price is $2000 $1800 OBO plus shipping.
