Have you ever heard of Wilson Combat? Wilson is a top gunsmith that has worked on thousands of guns, designed parts and makes 1911's.
So he has a lot of experience and knowledge. The guy in the video was a cop, an experienced combat (IPSC, USPA,etc) competitor and is a court certified self defense witness. He is a nationally known instructor. He now works with Wilson. So they would see more results than 10 of us combined.
They are describing this because they have seen it. Does it happen often? I can't say. But as Griff mentions the extractors are one of the weak areas of the 1911 as many of us know from having worn them out. It is a common wear-point of most automatic pistols.
So it may not be a problem for most of us, but it is your gun and so as you like.

The silver concho sounds real familiar, but I don't recall who used that as a marker.
But that was about 10 years ago so I don't know if they are still around. Sorry I could not really help.

With a 1911, it should be okay as long as you don't cycle the slide, just pull the hammer back manually.
If you do reload, you can make your own snap-cap, just to be extra safe, but it isn't required.-

Walnut shells (lizard Litter) clean better faster and last longer. Corn cobs polish better. So I use walnut with a little car wax (cheap as I find) works very well with a nice shine. Cut up some dryer sheets and put in 3 or 4 1 inch squares. They help reduce any dust and keep the media clean for a long time.

W231 is a very good powder for most pistols, if not the "greatest."
Herco shines with 9mm.
Both are older powders, so we may see a little more soot than the newest powders. But when I started reloaded, 231 was considered much cleaner than the "original" smokeless powders (Bullseye & Unique).
A few years ago, the makers have even "cleaned up" Bullseye and Unique to be better/less smoky.

A neat idea. Of course, some experienced writers/shooters input would be helpful.
Some ideas are not in stages because we already tried them!! And suffered through them

Long ago and far far away, we shot Marlin's with microgroove barrels for SASS. It became THE SASS rifle. (I have a photo of a rifle side match at EOT in 1999. Out of over 20 shooters, there were 2 92's, one 73 and the rest were all Marlins.) That was before folks figured out how to optimize 73 style rifles so the 73's were not quite as reliable and generally a little slower.
We did a lot of testing and once again after Marlin returned to the older "Ballard" style barrels. Folks said the microgroove was better for jacketed bullets but would work okay for lead.
In the experimenting we found that at SASS velocities (and a little above) the microgroove shoot as well and usually better than the "standard" barrel.-
