  1. A few folks I know who use these really like them. Doesn't fit my needs, but i'm glad it does for others... eases loading and might just keep some coming back shooting. My thumbs work just fine but I know arthritis has bitten many folks.

  2. In our gunworld, this man has contributed endlessly from his heart to all of our passion. His magazine articles, his books, the time and research and devotion to what he loved was second to none. We as handgunners and sixgunners are better off today from his contributions and shared knowledge, history and enthusiasm in the gunworld we share with him. He was truly one of the greats sharing the stage with Elmer Keith, Skeeter Skelton, Mike Venturino, Phil Spangenberger, John Linebaugh and the like. Excellent company to be sure.

John Taffin will be missed but his work and influence will carry forth.

    Rest in Peace, good Sir.

  3. There's a very good chance I was made on Valentine's Day. And I was married in February.

I can see buying myself a gift then quite being hazardous to my future. 😲

  4. A friend has an Uberti 1860 Henry. He bought some aluminum Snap Caps to run through the rifle and the bolt seems to be chewing up the rims on these Snap Caps. Brass cartridges however, are not damaged while cycling. Any insight into this would be much appreciated.

  5. High school kids can certainly do some dumb things but this one has some pretty severe consequences.

Once upon a time we played paintball. That's a high energy and high excitement game and is a tremendous amount of fun. If you do that in the proper area, cops will never show up with their guns drawn. Same thing with Airsoft, but again, it needs to be done in the proper place, not running around in public.

Nice pic!  I'm so lucky I won the first pair, I would never have gotten into Remingtons otherwise.

You won them? NICE score! That would make a feller's day!

I have had mine awhile. A "just because" purchase, more or less. They shoot quite well with no work done to them. I shoot one handed and while I cannot handle these quite like I can my Ruger Bisleys on a good day, they run quite well for what they are.

Several years back at Land Run, Taylors Firearms had a vendor/sponsor tent and I spent considerable time there drooling over a few selections, none of which I bought cuz sometimes I are stoopid. The guns I liked the most were the 1858 NMA sheriff's models in stainless. These had the checkered wood grips and were stunning. I was figuring to make these conversions. Somehow I lost track of the idea (since I stoopidly did not buy the guns) and time passed. Now when I check the usual sites for these models thar ain't nary a one to be found, of course. Them is on my list of cowboy toys at some point but until these come back I'll just hafta be OK with these lovely, plain old boring blued models. 😀 Of course if I proceed with buying another pair I will need leather to fit and y'all know how deep that rabbit hole can get.

  7. Chinks are the easiest to put on and remove. However if the Old West look is what you're after shotguns are what you are after AND they can be made with (mostly invisible) hooks to be easier to put on and take off. Ask Doc about that option.

I have a pair like that. They are quite nice.

  8. I own and wear chinks, shotguns and soon batwings. All have their place. For hot weather I prefer chinks. Cold weather, shotguns. Batwings for a 1895+ look and feel in "reasonable" temps. You can do shotguns in warm weather as well. As long as it's a lighter weight leather. Ask Doc for his advice.

I'll echo the suggestion for Doc's Old West. Very good product at a very reasonable price. Super nice folks too.

I shot the match earlier with the workers so didn't notice the memorial until I was out delivering shooter prizes.  It was nice, I should have taken a picture.  @Medicine Creek Kid , maybe you (or someone) can tell me, was there a significance to the partial bottle of RC Cola?  I'm assuming that was his choice?

Major was not a drinker... alcohol that is.  He did like RC cola though. 😀

The memorial was very thoughtful and much appreciated. He was a great friend and will be missed by many. I would have had him at that match to compete but as his real cowboy life dictated, he would have been working cattle in April anyway.

He would have loved that Texas Hill Country range there.
