  1. So much of our game isn’t period correct that I don’t sweat those details. Plastic peanut and pickle jars work great for me. Just water and a little dish soap. Brass goes into the jar after the stage. The ride home does the job of agitation. Rinse when I get home, place on towel to dry in the basement or outside, weather permitting. Easy peasy.

  2. I tried to get this meme thread back on track with another meme after derailing it over the pen joke (sorry), but the mods must’ve found something objectionable and pulled it. Here’s another. Happy meming!

That's why I either use a piston fill or converter.

Had to look that up as I wasn’t aware of them. Kinda cool.

I’m old enough to remember fountain pens that had an internal bladder. There was a lever on the outside of the pen that when lifted would squeeze the bladder. On release,  the bladder would expand and draw ink from a bottle in through the nib.

As a tyke, I thought that was cool. What I didn’t understand is that if you lifted the lever again, you’d squirt ink everywhere. Dad was NOT pleased… 😱

Do you have a shirt with a top pocket stained blue?

In grade school (Catholic) we were required to buy “washable blue” ink as opposed to permanent, which was important because boys had to wear white shirts.

The unintended consequence was that it encouraged “pen fights” where you whip the pen, making it fling ink on your opponent. Hey, it was supposed to be washable, right?

  5. I tried the behind-the-ear muffs like Canby, but didn’t care for them. They kept sliding down my head which reduced sound attenuation.

I now use custom moulded plugs from my audiologist. They have a small hole that allows me to hear instructions and the beep, but block the gun shots. Cost me $150 about 8 years ago. No batteries needed and unlike muffs, don’t interfere with my hat.
