  1. Scariest bikes I ever rode were the 500cc and 750cc Kawasaki 2-stroke triples back in 1971.  Blinding acceleration from 0 to death. Frightening handling above 80-90 mph on the street.

The best high speed bike I rode was an ‘85 BMW K100. Rock Solid at 130mph. That’s been a lot of years ago. My children were young then and I realized a collision with a rabbit or squirrel could turn me into a greasy smear. Haven’t had the urge to do that since.

Those were the days, huh? ;)

I used to hear a lot of crap about the AMF Harley Davidsons. There probably wouldn’t even be a Harley Davidson if not for AMF!!!

They purchased Harley when it was just short of folding. They made many improvements to the brand, including disc brakes, improved electrical systems, modern controls, and improved lighting. Many of the improvements that were made after the family bought the company back and took it public were planned and designed by AMF engineers!

The AMF bikes were fine for the time they were produced and if maintained properly, were perfectly reliable.  I rode mine in stock configuration for several years as my only source of transportation and as long as I kept it serviced and tuned, it got me to where I wanted to go.

It now has over a third of a million miles on it and while it’s now fully customized, the remaining AMF parts are doing just fine.

Unfortunately, just about everything motorized then that was built in the US and some other Western countries was poorly assembled. Didn’t matter how innovative the engineering was if the manufacturing was crap.

An acquaintance had purchased a new AMF Harley Sportster in 1976. It spent most of its first year at the dealer with myriad problems, so he got rid of it. Soured me on the brand.

Adding on,  from 1970-1980 I had owned a Honda motorcycle, a Plymouth Duster, and Triumph TR7. I sold a wonderful motorcycle to buy the new Duster. Piece of crap. I sold that to buy a new TR7 which was an even bigger piece of crap.

The TR7 killed British Leyland. The crap Detroit built should have killed them and the Japanese products almost sealed the coffin. If it wasn’t for Japanese competition, Detroit would probably be a backwater.

Gee, that pic is from what, 40-50 years ago? These days, Mick doesn’t look any better than Mitch. And I’ll wager his brain is substantially addled by drugs.  He’s been rode hard and put up wet.

Yeah I know it’s a joke, but I’ve had a very full day today. :P

I've heard that there places that have laws requiring this type of thing.

Reminds me of some of the laws for cars in the early 20th century to prevent scaring horses and people.

“There are multiple posts saying that Legolas is the Texan amongst the Fellowship of the Ring and you’re all wrong it’s Gandalf.

    It’s 1000% Gandalf.

Gandalf followed a wild horse for two days to tame it and would regularly ride up to the Shire with a cart full of homemade fireworks.

    Gandalf's the Texan.”

Ya lost me at Legolas. Are those some kind of snap-together plastic blocks? :D

Wouldn’t those handlebar streamers whip the snot out of the rider at street or highway speeds? Even worse with a cross wind?

The first bike has a precarious looking seat arrangement. One bump and your crotch is YEOWIEEEEEEE

The second bike is truly odd. Fun, but odd.

I’m betting the handling on that “Fokker” is downright spooky at anything above parking lot speed. Can you imagine the aerodynamics with any kind of breeze? Hopefully those are detached before riding on the steet. :o

Yup. It’s one of those situations where gender reassignment is actually appropriate. He was a genetic fluke and had the surgery when he was 18. Sometimes it is biology.

But that’s different from many today who are experimenting with something trendy to satisfy their cultural neuroses.

I was at the Grand Canyon a few years ago and meandered through the gift shop on the South Rim which contains Native American items supposedly made by Native Americans. If you looked closely enough, much of it was made in China.
