  1. Go to Polk County, you'll find out how far South you really are....especially if you run afoul of the law!

Like Ozark implied, most of the larger cities in Florida are Yankeefied. Drive 20 miles away and you're out in the Southland. Florida was the third State to secede from the Union and join the Confederacy in February 1861.

I'm guessing a lot of these folks are season pass holders.  It's not their first rodeo.  If they truly don't know what it means, they should ask.

I would also HOPE they would research the driving laws where they are visiting so they would know you can't camp in the fast lane.  It's the law here.

I actually saw this on one of those FDOT signs near the Sunshine Skyway a few weeks ago.

Enjoy camping in one of our State Parks,

    Not in the left lane.

It's AGAINST the law to flash your lights in VA.   Also reckless driving (over 80 mph) on the highways is a CRIMINAL violation that can result in arrest.in VA and the VA State Police actively enforce the speed limit.

Most of us don't pay much attention to the details of the motor vehicle laws of other states and think they are the same everywhere.

Last time I was in Virginia, I found out that using radar detectors are illegal in that State also. Just glad I didn't find out the hard way.

  3. I have no problem with players getting all they can bargain for in salary. I just believe that there should be a salary cap that ALL teams are REQUIRED to adhere to. No paying a so-called "Luxury Tax", which is a joke, for exceeding the salary cap. Set the limit and that's it, no spending over the cap...period.

Just curious why the hate for the Dodgers?

I realize that this question was intended for SDJ but I'll answer for myself also.

I don't hate the Dodgers in the least. I actually like several players in the organization....Betts, Freeman, Ohtani and a couple others. I don't like Snail (Snell),  Glasjaw (Glasnow), Banda or Friedman (President). Didn't like them when they were with the Rays, don't like them now.

I'm also not a big fan of any sports team(s) that try to "buy" championships instead of earning them. IMO, that's what the Dodgers and some other teams, in MLB/other sports, try to do. Although the Jays are sort of near the top in spending, their spending is considerably lower than the Dodgers. The Jays are also the big underdog in the Series and I almost always root for the underdog.

The Jays are also a AL East team that put the Yankees into a position of having to fight it out as a Wild Card team...that gets them the edge in my rooting book.

When there are only two choices, you gotta choose one or the other...I'm going with the Jays.

    Go Jays

  5.

My Step-Father won a Winchester Model 57 with two magazines and a single shot .410 shotgun in a raffle. He gave me the 57 and my brother the .410.

To this day, the only open sight .22 that has matched or beat the M57 has been a Winchester Model 55, a single shot that fires from an open bolt. Weird action, but extremely accurate.

Edit to show Model 55, not 52

Yesavage pitched a great game last night. He set and/or matched a couple of records for a rookie pitcher in the World Series. Jays came to play ball while the Dodgers were lackluster and the got to Snail early...real early...like first and third pitch early and their relievers didn't help the situation in the least.

Friday will feature Yamamoto of the Dodgers and Gausman for the Jays. Yamamoto has been lights out with two complete games while Gausman has been so-so and makes it until about the 6th. Gausman must step it up for the Jays to win Friday and the Dodger's bats will have to wake up for them to even it up.

Hope the Jays take the pennant on Friday.

    Go Jays!

Yesavage pitched a heck of a game. Set and/or matched quite a few records for a rookie pitcher in the World Series. It'd be a hard choice for today's MVP between Barger (the catch Joe posted) and Yesavage but I'd go with Yesavage.

    Hey Stump.

I don't remember our local country store selling individual .22 ammo, although they may have and I didn't know about it.

BUT, they did sell shotgun shells individually.   Don't remember the price, but there was always an opened box with a few missing.....

and the owner once told me someone only needed a few.

At one time, 3 candy bars or 3 packs of gum were 10 cents.   Problem was, not often could we scrounge up a dime.

    ..........Widder

When we couldn't scrounge up the nickel or dime...we'd go on the hunt for soda bottles. The bottles weren't worth saving to adults but to us kids, they were a treasure trove!

Think of the grain of a bat as several layers of cardboard. The grain lines represent a sheet.the bat is eager to break if you hit it on the face of a sheet than on the edges. On the face the several sheets can individually bend and the bat will break mote easily.

That's exactly what I'm talking about!

  10. That's why baseball bats have a stamp on them. Stamp goes toward the batter. The stamp indicated the grain of the wood. Most bats that are broken by pissed off batters or while hitting the ball are broken when the impact or snapping point is with the grain.

  12. There used to be a store in St. Pete called Webb City. It was really a huge department store that stretched a city block. Had everything you could imagine there. Even had a "piano playing" chicken if you put a nickel in the machine. Anyway, the store is long gone but I still have one box of .22 ammo from there. Some pictures of some other older .22 ammo also.
