  1. I wouldn't allow my vulnerable kids to do that kind of extracurricular work for any organization.

    Good call on your part.

    Edit

To be more clear, I'd be careful about allowing my young daughter to spend too much time with adults that you do not know well. Your instinct is on the right track, regardless of your original rationale for saying no. My advice is to stick with your decision in not allowing this arrangement. Flattery and compliments are a red flag in my opinion. Might be smart to change dojos or get her interested in something else. I'd discuss this with my wife and maybe my daughter, too. I wouldn't allow it. It makes no sense to me (given what you stated), that she would be offered this "job," when her training and experience are so limited.

    Edit-2

After thinking about this more, I wouldn't hesitate to contact the local police, speak to the appropriate detective and explain in detail the circumstances your kid experienced, focusing on the complimentary flattery of being "mature" and "a leader.". He may want to speak to your wife, too. This sounds like a typical approach to a child by a predator. May be nothing or you may have dodged a bullet.

  2. while his colleagues went to war he was at home and furthered his career playing a war hero in the movies while the true heroes like Stewart and others served

There is documented proof that John Wayne tried to get into the military during WWII and was blocked by his old "buddy" John Ford and others, from doing so.

Soooo, Getting back on point, which was suggested that we do earlier, it sounds like the best tact and direction that we take in this conversation is to stick to the original question.

Therefore, (if I was unclear earlier) if I must choose between the two, I pick John Wayne.

But, I do not like making that choice because I see Wayne and Eastwood as two separate talents, whose stars rose in essentially two different time frames. This was also suggested earlier by others. I don't believe that we can actually make a decision based on a comparison between the two men, their talents and their movies.

Something that I would have liked to have seen, however, is a movie with both John Wayne and Clint Eastwood in it, maybe as adversarial allies who, in the end, gain enormousrespect for one another.

  4. The part I found hilarious was Jill Stein's explanation on Fox, when asked how Russia could have affected voting machines that are not connected to the Internet; she deftly asserted hackers walk around and "... use a floppy disc thing". I wondered what had happened to floppy discs.....

    LL

Is she just stupid; or does she think we're all stupid?

That "floppy disc thing" must be what is being repeatedly reformatted in her head every 24 hours, with a new batch of crazy nonsense.

Here's the brief floppy disc interview link, below:

  5. Jimmy Stewart.

A true American hero. He flew bombing missions over Germany in W.W.II. and retired as a Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserves. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross twice, Croix de Guerre, Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

Plus he was the man that shot Liberty Valance!

As an actor, I've never cared for Jimmy Stewart much.

Besides, JOHN WAYNE shot Liberty Valance!

But, Liberty did have two of the greatest side men in Westerns history:

Lee Van Cleef and Strother Martin

  6. I've been anti Bruce Dern since the very first time I saw the Cowboys. In fact I've been known to turn a movie off when I saw his name in the credits. I have to say though, I did feel sympathy for his character in Nebraska.

Why? Cuz he killed John Wayne?

Hell, after "The Cowboys," even JW's younger kids were scared of him!

    :-)

AUGUSTA, GA - Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Ga. told police he observed a customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveilance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket. When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.

Outside on the sidealk were four Marines collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, Cpt. Phillip Duggan, in the back; the injury did not appear to be severe.

After police and an ambulance arrived at the scene, Cpt. Duggan was taken for treatment.

"The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw ..... injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off the curb after stabbing the Marine," according to a police report.

  8. I think that's too long. For that period of time, I would kennel the little cat. If you are wary of kennels, see if your vet will kennel her...many do. If nothing else, try to find a cat sitter to come over once a day to check on your cat, give fresh water and check the kibble dispenser....that may be the best solution anyway.

  9. I worked with a guy whose parents were incarcerated there.

This area where I live has a good number of Americans, whose grand parents or great grandparents emigrated to the US from Japan in the 1890's - early 1900's. They owned, and several families still own, farm land nearby

  10. Black powder .45 Colt vs. .44-40

Let's say these cartridges are period "standard" commercial loadings (I have no idea what that may have been), sold in boxes or some other packaging.

    Anyway the questions are:

Which of these two cartridges was the more powerful as far as muzzle velocities and stopping power and what were the common bullet weights of the period?

Anything else you think is pertinent?

    Just a curious thought.

    Thanks in advance...

  11. WARNING-Remmy will sit on it....FOREVER.

    OLG

Yeah I agree, regarding NOT sending it to Marlin. They may even lose it in the process of letting it sit around while they ignore it. So, I don't consider sending it to them an option for you, but you'll have to decide that.

I'd listen hard, to Widow and OLG.

If you are not experienced, i do suggest that, if possible, you obtain an undamaged bolt as a model to guide you in machining your weld-repaired bolt back to an acceptable semblance of of its original self.
