Regarding the photo above, has anyone noticed that all the children have nearly identical facial features and wear the same outfits?

Wearing the same outfit - seven of the 11 kids are wearing bib overalls - doesn't surprise me in a poor rural town. We have two girls that are identical but I suppose they could be twins. The other girl in the dress looks like she could be their big sister. But every kid in the front row has got funny hands. And the teacher's hand does not look like a human being's hand.

    AI strikes again.

  2. There is a 1954 children's book by Troy Nespit, called Sand Dune Pony.

"Sand Dune Pony is the story of a boy named Pete and a wild mustang pony set in what is now Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado."

They go skiing in the sand dunes. One guy rides the pony, towing the other guy on skis, among the sand dunes.

I assume this is the same thing except that it's on snow?

As a kid these movies scared the crap out of me, Tarantula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Mummy.

Fourth grade. Frankenstein was on the Saturday afternoon movie. Igor brings over a petri dish with a couple of eyes in it, and I had to get up and go outside. That movie was scaring me plumb to death.

  4. I wonder why they doctored the picture like that?

That is usually what you see when someone takes video with a cell phone camera and then posts it on YouTube.

The actual picture in the middle of the screen and then some out of focus fuzzy crap on both sides of the actual picture.

But friends and neighbors, they did not have cell phones in 1929. Photographs taken in 1929 would normally fill the entire screen.

    Weirdness.

  5. Whatever it is, I've heard that many times in jungle movies. But African jungle movies - Tarzan, stuff like that. Not Australian jungle movies.

Do they make Australian jungle movies? Do they have jungles in Australia?

Did that looks like what the picture in my head says is a kookaburra.

  6. Couple years ago, if I had read that I would have thought - cool. Good going Duke.

But over the last year so I have seen several stories similar to that.

Al Pacino, before he was Michael Corleone, lived for several months rent-free because the superintendent of his building knew he didn't have the money to pay the rent. Later the building was bought by an investment corporation and they were going to fire the superintendent because she was old. So she not only would have no job but would have no place to live. Pacino bought the building and told her she had the job as long as she wanted it. And didn't tell anybody. And the only reason anyone knows is because her heirs found a letter in her papers after her death.

Kurt Russell needed to learn to ride for Tombstone. Woman had ranch where she raised horses. He stayed there and learned to ride and she helped him. Later the ranch was being foreclosed. So Kurt bought a ranch and hired the woman to run it. And never told anyone

Patrick Swayze did something. I don't remember what he did but it was a wonderful thing and he never told anyone.

Just too many stories like that popping up. Might believe one. Kind of hard to believe four or five.

You can get 'em from Amazon!

The magnets collect metal bits the cows eat when grazing, like; nails, barbed wire barbs, pieces of wire. It keeps the metal from being digested and causing damage to other organs. The magnet stays in the first stomach, I believe.

When I found them, while just browsing, on Amazon, I HAD TO go look them up. Cow magnets? Seriously?

And yes, that's what the all-knowing internet says - exactly what Pat said. To catch the little bits of metal that cows eat.

Maybe by today's standards most off King's books are more thrillers than horrors, but I read Pet Cemetery and as a parent it absolutely horrified me.

I read Pet Cemetery, and then a few years later I married a woman with small children.

One of the very first things I learned those kids was that when I said stop they were supposed to stop and when I said come here they were supposed to come here. Because of that little boy that thought it was so much fun to run away when Daddy said come here, and ran out in front of the semi.

  9. I think I still need the same amount of sleep. I just don't always get it in one continuous piece.

Like this morning. I woke up about 3:15, couldn't get back to sleep. Read for a couple hours, had breakfast. Long about 7:00 I was feeling sleepy so I went back to bed. Slept till 10:00. So I woke up 3 hours early, took a 4 hour break and then slept three more hours. Still got the same amount of sleep.

Without a hammer, to put it on half cock, how do you release the cylinder to rotate to load it?

I've also wondered, for a few years, how you put the percussion caps on a double action pepper box.

My uncle used to put a little bit of ice cream in his morning coffee.️

I thought about that a year so back. I had a half gallon of French vanilla in the freezer, and I thought about putting a spoonful in the coffee.

Never did, because it seems like it would cool the coffee too fast. 40° cream out of the refrigerator cools the coffee too fast. 0° ice cream out of the freezer??

  12. Lawyers. In My cousin Vinny, the court appointed lawyer for the two boys had a stutter.

    For a movie that's funny.

But I was on a jury one time, and one of the two councils had a stutter. I thought then, and I still think - if I had a job that required me to speak for a living, and I had a speech impediment, I would look for a new job.

Unless, maybe, he thought that juries would find for him out of sympathy because "the poor man has a stutter"?
