    More like a brass shoveler.

I recall a novel I read about the AC 47 in Vietnam. And one of the jobs of the load master was to shovel the empties out the door.

  2. How about this?

The ball hits the ground and bounces over the fence. That's a double, right?

The fielder sees it hit the ground and sees that it is going to bounce over the fence, so runs up the back wall like that guy did, and reaches over the fence and grabs the ball. After it has gone over the fence.

Is it still a double, or can the fielder now fire it to the first baseman and hold him at first? Or even, since the batter saw it was bouncing over and knew it was a double he was just slowly trotting down the baseline, fire it to the first baseman and put him out at first?

That was an interesting article. Thank you for posting the link.

I am curious about this though.

    >Hetherington said parents have the constitutional right to decide how to parent their kids, and authorities can only intervene if there’s a risk to the child’s safety or well-being. <

Does anyone happen to know the article number, paragraph, atsub-paragraph where that particular constitutional right is specified?

  4. "Hands-only CPR".

Never heard of that before, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that that means do the pushing down on the chest but don't do the breathing in the mouth. Just do the hands, don't do the mouth.

But since CPR stands for cardio (heart) pulmonary (lungs) resuscitation, how can you do CPR if you are not doing the lungs as well as the heart?

  5. That is a heck of a catch.

And if I was making the rules for baseball that would have been a home run. It went over the fence. It cleared the fence by a couple of feet and it went over the fence. He reached over and grabbed it, but that does not change the fact that it went over the fence.

    Home run.

The more I look at that the more impressed I am. Not the "taking the header into the snow". It looks like that kid ran across a sheet of black ice. My two experiences with it were not fun.

  7. 9-year-old girl. She's coming over to your house to play with your 9-year-old girl. When she arrives at the door you say something about having her mother come in so you can say hi. And she tells you that her mother did not come. She came by herself.

She lives about 5 miles away. Just went down to the bus stop and caught the bus and came over to your house. By herself.

    How would you react?

This is a webcomic strip. The guy's 9 year old daughter is adopted. Many commenters on the strip are saying that his shocked expression upon finding out the other girl came that far by herself is because he has been buried up to his neck with child protective services and the government taking care of kids - because his kid is adopted.

And I was thinking it was more that he was just shocked because in this day and age you don't do that.

When I was a kid we'd go out and play. We just had to be home for supper. But when I was raising my kids, you had to know where the kid was going. They weren't just going out to play. They were going over to Susie's house, and Susie's mother knew that she was coming. And my grandkids? My daughter would take them to the park and watch them. You didn't just let your kids go play. That wasn't safe.

So I figured that's why he was so shocked.

And you are concerned about a knife?????

Not quite sure I understand your question.

Jane skinny dipping - I've got that movie on disc. I can look at Jane swimming naked whenever I want to.

Father Kit's wife skinny dipping - that's probably not a good thing to be concerned about. He owns guns. And he don't live that far away.
