  10. By the way!! You hear all sorts of engine notes as the cars pass by. Some shriek, some rumble and some squall!! There are those that whine and others that just sort of purr. Those Corvettes could be identified as they passed even if you were blindfolded and fitted with noise canceling headphones!! They literally shook the ground and you could feel it in your legs and chest!!
  11. Jeff looked a little lost in his first stint in the cockpit. He took over running in third place and managed to hold his position. He had much more apparent confidence in his second turn. He handled the rain well. The car is magnificent up close!! The final pass for the lead was made in the last couple of laps and the final gap was less than two seconds! It wasn't EVEN the closest contest!! The GTLM contest was between four major brands. The lead changed what seemed to be a hundred times throughout the race. The final lap produced a finish with the Ford GT in first, the Porsche second, Ferrari third, and the Corvette fourth and you could have covered all four with a king sized bed sheet!! There were at least seven of the GTLM cars on the lead lap when the checkered flag fell after 24 hours of racing!! The weather SUCKED!! 42 degrees and rain throughout the night! I caught a hell of a cold and was never actually out in the rain for more than a couple minutes at a time!!! I'd attended every other event held at Daytona at one time or another except for the 24!! Schoolmarm sponsored the trip and spent her time hanging around the beach when it wasn't raining. Now they're adding dirt flat track motorcycle racing. Looks like I've gotta' figure a way to get down there for that sometime!!
  12. I'm right there with ya', Widder!! Ol' Green rolled over 378,000 miles a week or two ago!! Yesterday, I walked around behind the old relic and noticed I was gonna' hafta' put tires on it!! Three full sets of tires and a pair for the front I've bought for that pile of junk and now it needs 'em again!! WHAT'S UP WIT DAT????
  13. A prayer for peace and understanding to his family and friends!!
  14. Those were pretty solid little cars with the OHV 4 cylinder or a V6 or V8! I had a '75 Monza fastback that came with a V8 4spd. It would only run about 135 mph, so I pulled out the small block and installed a 427!! We did replace the differential assy. with a better one. Gas mileage went into the toilet, but 165 mph was NO PROBLEM!! Wife had a '77 with the Vega engine! GM replaced two of them under warranty before we installed a 302 Z28 engine. These were good little platforms for a light, quick, sporty little hotrod and you could use factory parts to do it!! The Monza fastback was a pretty slick looking little car in it's day!! The '75 wound up with a full tube chassis and a REALLY big engine. I ran it on the drag strip for a year or two before graduating to a rear engine dragster. The fastback model of the Monza/Sunbird was the real predecessor to the GenIII Camaro/Firebird!!
  15. I just received the sad news that drummer Butch Trucks, original member of the Allman Brothers' Band and uncle to blues guitar prodigy, Derek Trucks has passed. Trucks was one of a pair of drummers chosen by the late Duane Allman to anchor the rhythm section of ABB when he began assembling players nearly fifty years ago. The twin drummer/twin guitar band, anchored in blues and southern rock, was the inspiration for any number of bands over parts of six decades, including Widespread Panic and the Dave Matthews Band. Butch Trucks was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1994. The Allman Brothers Band was prolific and truly innovative in the blues genre and Trucks was there for all of it!! As some of you know, I went to school with and played music with members of various blues and southern rock bands including the late Alan Woody, bassist for ABB and Govt. Mule, and Barry Barnes and Gary Allen, members of the original Charlie Daniels Band. Some of these guys have sat in with my own band and this hits real close to home for me.
