  1. I like the "participation awards" at the Bar 3 monthly shoots. More food than you can eat & still make it back to your car. Yeah, it's a potluck but the club puts in plenty of food along with the shooters and I have never, ever heard a complaint in the 6 years I have shot there.

The past regionals and current annuals have been generous in category awards based on the number of category shooters.. At the last annual a gun was given away every hour the stages were being shot. All shooting awards there are earned. T shirts and/or coffee mugs are in the shooter's packs.

  2. I will try anything once, sounds like fun. I have an original trapdoor rifle in 45-70, will have to find a pair of revolvers, and will need a source for 20ga black powder shotgun shell or have to get a double barrel 12ga. I will get it figured out, so sign me up for the Plainsman match. Maybe I will switch to a black powder category for the main match, have always thought that would be fun. FYI, I will still be dressed in all white.

    Maddog

I will be happy to share my 12 ga Baikal & even provide the shells to get you to shoot it.

  3. In Texas at the Bar 3 range we handle lunch just like buffet in Las Vegas. Its FREE to start with. More goodies that you can shake a stick at. Great food brought by all the shooters. If there is not enough meat of sort We will fire up the grill and cook out on the spot. Come over next weekend and I'll show ya. Its Italian cuisine then white elephant Christmas.

I'm a-comin & smoked chicken Alfredo is comin with me !

  4. Like many things in SASS there is no standard. In some places if you don't start on an end you get a P or at least a very long discussion. Same with "two" separate sweeps of the plates. In some places you have to do the two sweeps from the same end. In other places you can do a "dirty" sweep, I.e., sweep one direction, double tap the end plate and sweep back the opposite direction. Whenever I'm on the road I always ask. You would be surprised at some of the answers.

If a stage writer wants it one way or the other, he/she needs to specify that. I think it's BS to require something not specified in the stage description.

  5.

At State and above matches, all Range Officers are to be RO-I certified by contract with SASS.

    Match Director

    Range Master

    Posse Marshal

    Deputy Posse Marshal

    Timer Operator

    Expediter

    Score Keeper

    Spotter

    Loading/Unloading Officer

    In response to:

"Believe you have BADLY misinterpreted the definition of "Range Officers"

The way I read the ROI manual, it states:

    MATCH PROCEDURES AND TERMS

All match positions described below are Range Officers. The Timer Operator is the Chief Range Officer during shooting stage operations.

And then lists the 9 positions listed above.

    (I agree with A.O. Hearts)

  6. Seller&Bellot is another option. They typically are about $6/K cheaper. I am into my second 5K using them in .32 Single Sixes, .38 Cody '73 and 9mm Ruger SR9C with no failures of any kind.

  7. One category requires .40 cal minimum. In others .45, .44, .38, .36 and .32 are all legal. So, yes, if you shoot .38s you will be competing against all the others.
