It just needs to be fitted.
Think about this. You go to an auto parts store for a part expecting that part to bolt right one. But, the first thing they will ask you is what make, what model and what year. In the case of the Marlins which have been made since 1880's, much of that info is not available. So there will always be possibility it won’t drop right in. As a gunsmith the best you can hope for is a part that is too big. You can always whittle it down to fit.

The concept of trying to keep the shells spaced correctly from the belt, bando or whatever your using to the chambers while also trying to get max speed has never made sense to me I guess. I let the gun do that and try to do everything else as efficiently as possible. When someone shows me different on the timer I'll starting thinking about changing and teaching differently.

Dern played a conflicted town marshal in Last Man Standing. He got Bruce Willis his twin 1911's back so he could smoke the whole town.

I really miss Bisley Joe.

Larsen E., is the Winchester spring hour glassed?
No, it is not. But they are very high quality and tune very nicely and that can also be said of the action lifter/lever springs.

There is nothing stopping a local club from offering a sub category like you propose. But in my experience of match directing even the most casual of competitors will not like placing below a adult shooter be it a man or woman who is shooting .22's when they are shooting centerfires.

Tucson Stu of the Rockford Regulators. I was looking at a AWA Longhorn and he was working the counter at Gander Mountain. We talked for a few minutes and he handed me a brochure for a new club they just started in Rockford. Went to the match that week and two months later had bought all my gear and shot my first match there. That was when you could start for $1500. I was 20 years old. Stu passed away last November.

Well it sounds like a reasonable "request" rather than a ban. They had to do something after some knucklehead shot himself in their store. I'm not anti gun at all, but I wouldn't allow anyone I didn't personally know to carry in a business I owned. It's not being anti gun, it's being anti stupid people, and there are far too many of them out there. Just go to any public indoor range and count how many times someone gets swept.
So are you saying that you need to personally make sure folks are vetted to your standards before a person carries concealed around you? Just trying to get a handle on the concept I guess.

I guess I will throw my two cents in while I'm here. I don't want you to get the wrong idea. It IS possible to love the old west, have an affection for the old guns, love the people and the spirit of the game and embrace the history of SASS AND be competitive all at the same time. The theme sometimes seems to be that if you are interested in the competition that somehow you are not here to have fun. In fact in my region it's the competitive shooters that drive the CAS economy, travel the most, go to more monthly matches and run and administrate matches. With that being said go to some matches and talk to everyone you can. Take a note pad with you. Don't underestimate local gun tuners. A Uberti 73',pair of Rugers and a quality SxS or 97's along with good quality leather designed for our game are all good places to start. I encourage to ask around, you rifle will need service from time to time (they ALL do) and if you can get it done locally all the better. Given your background in other shooting sports you know that reliable equipment that works well equals way more fun regardless of what level you want to be at. You will not find better friends or people. Good luck!

Deuce,
I know others have farther drives. I'm sorry you are bothered when some of us mention the length of our drives.
Most of the time, I have to travel alone everywhere. Thankfully, I don't feel alone when I arrive. Also, long drives require me to leave my husband unattended longer. He is physically unable to make a trip that takes more than a few hours and doesn't find it fun to go much of anywhere.
The farthest I have ever been to a match was Sparta almost 6 years ago. That was a combination family visit, business trip, and two-match vacation. My husband's health is much worse now.
The choices we make about matches may not be as simple as the miles make it seem.
Regards,
Allie
Did I say you directly, I'm sorry I thought we were able to express ourselves on this forum, I forgot where I was for a minute. My apologies.

I guess what bothers me the most is that folks act like the rest of the country does not have to drive any kind of a distance to get there. Winter Range is 32 hours (just drove it) and EOT is 24. Would I like them in my own backyard, yeah who wouldn't. That being said I view both events as a pilgrimage and have not regretted any of my trips. 10 of them to WR and this EOT will be my 6th. If ya wanna play ya gotta be there. Sitting in one spot and wishing it was somewhere else gets you nowhere fast. Can't wait for EOT.

I would hope that those who make the decisions in SASS would look into the finals of EOT and into Bud's idea. I do not want to take away from Savage Sam's championship. He won it under the current rules that have been used for years and is the champion. I do believe that any contest should evaluate the results and see if the rules are turning out the outcome they are trying to achieve such as the fastest, most consistent etc....When you look at the total times of the no. 2 and 4 shooter overall and the no. of stages won by these shooters, I do see a situation that needs attention and Bud's proposal should be looked at.
That being said Sam shot the match that was in front of him. He's capable of turning in much faster times but with faster times comes higher risks. He played the game. He was the best at the game that weekend. We all knew how we would be scored when when we started. Knowing just how tough it is to stretch out 12 stages over three days and looking at the scores he shot one heck of a match.
New game at The Cowboys.

I like the qualification. It's goes against the "every kid makes the soccer team" mentality that seems to have crept in everywhere.
