Come on up here and shoot our Longrange side matches and you will find that almost with-out exception you will have the better part of a day to check your rifles sight settings and in at least one shoot 2 + days to practice on the range with targets out to 1,154 yards ... The close targets are 200 yards ...
My Highwall seems to do right well given half a chance ...

20 seems to be the clear choice ...

Yep you travel 1,760 miles to a range 2,000 ft. lower elevation ,,,,,,,,,,,,, and no where to see what the effect is on sight
settings !!!
Talk about Down Home Advantage,,,,,,, Just plain Stinks !!!

It may not Be Dead ,,,, but a call out to the EMS might be in order ...
Not shot around here ...
And of the 10 Larger multi day matches, including WR I attended this year WB was only offered at 3 of them and less than 10 % of the Cowboys shot WB on the average ....

I have both 20 inchers and 24 inchers ...
On the shooting line I see far more 20 inchers than any other length ...
And not just in 73s ....

Howdy Jabez.
Although I don't keep a 'record' of group size, I do keep some of the more important targets that show both good and bad grouping of certain powders. This helps me from buying the 'inaccurate' stuff and wasting my time in the future.
One other thing I have done with my 'Pairs' of pistols is Chronograph EACH pistol.
I have one set of Ruger Vaq. that actually have a velocity difference of about 25 fps with identical loads. And my Chronograph results were consistent with varies powders and bullet weights.
One pistol just has a higher velocity average than the other pistol.
..........Widder
Howdy Pard;
I have one 4 5/8 inch gun that turns in higher velocities than my 5 1/2 inch gun with most
powders, both are in .45 Colt .... I have Two 4 5/8 inch and one 5 1/2 in guns that I use for Cowboy they shoot good for Windage
with every powder tried so far ,,, With the exception of one gun using Win.231 powder this one gun shoots a
foot left at 25 yards when using my standard load of 231 .... All my other guns including rifles shoot this
load right down the middle ... So if I'm using 231 this gun gets to take a break from the action...
With Promo, Red Dot , True Blue , 700X , etc. and 3F it shoots on center ...
My records are very complete as to velocities and other varibles in loading ammo ....
All the best this Turkey season and for Christmas to you and yours ...

My 92 is a 24 inch Oct. Barreled version I load the "Speer" 300 gr. FP bullet at 1,500 Fps. and it will keep 5 shots under 4 inches at 100 meters using the factory open sights....
It will also keep my Match loads of a full case load of Goex 3F under a Soft Cast 270 grain RNFP bullet lubed with SPG in a sub 4 inch group at 100 Meters ...
Both loads will take a big Alberta deer ....

I prefer rank points for this simple reason, they favor the more consistent shooter. I've been at matches where I wasn't the fastest shooter but at the end of the day I was most consistent (no misses, no Ps) and won top gun. A good example would be Wyatt Earp. Not the fastest gun but always hit his target thereby proclaiming him the WINNER!
I do respect and agree with the safety aspect of the OP though, and agree an MSV might need to carry more weight under any scoring system.
... I have beaten a fellow shooter on 7 of 10 stages , had two less misses ,been less than 1/2 second slower than him on 3 stages and 63 seconds faster on total time and he beat me in RANK Points !!!!
I guess he was more CONSISTENT than me, in being slower shooting and missing more ...
If this is the Consistancey that rank point rewards ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Then RANK really is a Great discription of this method of scoring ...

Just use Total Time !!!
What could be more Fair ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Or easyer ??????????
RANK POINTS SUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This ,,, While a start does Not address the fact that Other Shooters from Outside your Class will deside the winner in your class if you are shooting in one of the More difficult Classes to master ie; Frontieer Cartridge or Frontieersman ....
So why bother having classes or age groups ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, when you are shooting against all !!!
