  3. Head-space and Chambering are independent of firearm type and are done to SAMMI specs...

Barrel length and cylinder gap are a factor in Velocity with the former having the greater effect ...

A good load for Cowboy in your revolvers will be just fine in your rifle ....

    Hope this helps ...

  4. Pards;

First of the more empty space in the case the more effected it is by low temps...

Loads that fail to reach the designed pressure range of the powder in question the more it is effected.

Widder ; Changing to a Mag. primer if you leave the rest of the load the same can act like adding 2

tenths of a grain of powder ...

Full Case loads of Real Blackpowder shoot about the same no matter the Temp Range ...

  5. For a ladies load in 20 ga. I use 48 gr. Goex 3F under 3/4 oz, shot.

My 16 ga. load is 3.4 CCs. of Goex 3F under 1oz. of shot.

In My 12 ga. I use 4.3 CCs. of Goex 3F under 1 1/8 oz. of shot ...

In 10 ga. I use 6 CCs. of Goex 3F under 1 3/8 oz. of shot...

All above are used in hammered doubles between 90 years old 132 years old ....

Happy New Year to all ...

  6. Well it seems that their might be a problem and some might wish it weren't so but it is probley isn't beyond that which can best be remediated by peer pressure...

Thank-you all for your imput ....

    Keep them smoking ....

    Happy New Year ...

  7. It has come to my attention that there are folks out there that are loading Shotshell with less than 3 grains more blackpowder than I use in .45 Colt ....

These loads hardly smoke more than old IVI smokeless loads ...

It is in my opinion pushing things too far ,,, shotshells used in the Blackpowder classes should smoke more than smokeless.to a noticeable degree ....

I shoot FCD and my loads SMOKE ....

Do I expect everyones loads to be as smokie as mine NO !

    Flame away ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I do ...

  8. And I assume you don't know nothing ....

I shoot doubles with hammers the newest about 90 years old the oldest made in 1884 all with black , cleared the saloon at WR when I started shooting ,,, .45 colt with a compressed charge of Goex 3F under a 270 gr. RNFP (2,3 grains less than your Shotshells)..

Or my Open-Tops in .44 spl. using drop-tubed in compressed loads under 240 gr, RNFP ...

My lightest loads used in this game in 12ga are 4.3 CCs of 3F Goex under 1 1/8 oz. of shot ...

Compared to my loads yours I might mistake yours as smokeless !!!

    Jabez Cowboy

  9. SORRY I mistakenly thought that in Shooting BLACKPOWDER it is expected that your guns should make smoke !!!!!

Or move on over to the smokeless categories ....
