  4. Up here .38-40 Cost about 175 dollars per hundred to buy ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, For smokieless...

    For $1.75 Canadian per shot...

If I buy bullets from local caster and load with Goex 3F my per Shot cost is 27 cents ....

Smokeless loads buying bullets my cost per shot is 15.25 cents ...

If I cast and lube my own and load using Goex 3F I can get the cost down to just under 20 cents per shot ...

This is for full case loads of powder ..... No added substances ....

  7. The cost of casting needs to include fuel , and bullet lube adds too ...

I have several tons of free lead,,,,, but I burned a gallon of gas to pick it up ,,,, so it's Cheap not Free...

And when I'm casting ,,, I'm not making money fixing Guns ....

So cast Bullets ain't free but sure CAN be worth doing ... Long-range bullets and those for FCD come to mind ...

Far more capable than the .38-55 ....

That said I do like the .38-55 in lever guns .... I own 2.

  12. Head-space and Chambering are independent of firearm type and are done to SAMMI specs...

Barrel length and cylinder gap are a factor in Velocity with the former having the greater effect ...

A good load for Cowboy in your revolvers will be just fine in your rifle ....

    Hope this helps ...

  13. Pards;

First of the more empty space in the case the more effected it is by low temps...

Loads that fail to reach the designed pressure range of the powder in question the more it is effected.

Widder ; Changing to a Mag. primer if you leave the rest of the load the same can act like adding 2

tenths of a grain of powder ...

Full Case loads of Real Blackpowder shoot about the same no matter the Temp Range ...
