I went to RRV Cowpokes match yesterday to get out and about from all the boredom. I enjoyed being TO for 18 shooters for Six stages. I noticed to shootersw GWII GC Piettas.
Hmmm, I wonder who....

I shot at Oakwood Outlaws, near Oakwood, Texas, this weekend. Short drive, hot humid weather. IDEAL!
I shot this Saturday and Sunday there, 6 stages both days.
Sunday I shot the Pietta's GWII "Gunfighrt competitors"
My thoughts,
They shot great. For some reason, they get on target easily.
No misses, no ruger(Pietta? go rounds)
But, they do love 122/125gr bullets best.
105's gr, seem to back out primers every so often. I practiced with them on Saturday and decided to shoot only 122gr or 125gr on Sunday.
Still the best price, out of the box - to the range - SASS legal handguns I have ever shot and owned.
Now the problem of ..... Ruger's NV's OR Pietta's GWII Gunfighter Competitors....I could see me shooting the Pietta's at the Nationals 2025. Though, I do love my Lassiter Ruger New Vaqueros short stroked classics.....Tis a good problem to have.

I reached out to EMF and discussed with them; they stated that the triggers were probably within specs. They wanted me to discuss the issue with Slick and the consensus was that indeed they do need some additional work to make the triggers suitable. I also discussed with Lassiter what the additional cost would be to make these "match ready" I again reached out to EMF and they had me return them for a full refund. I am satisfied with what they did to refund me the cost, but while these are really nice-looking guns with the barrels and the case hardening, they are not match ready out of the box. IMHO
I am sad to hear this. I am still impressed with mine. Yet, I am shooting smokeless, I think you are shooting Black powder or a sub.

I remember when he did these, and IIRC, those were buffalo horn grips that he waited weeks to get back from that "New Fangled" laser engraving place. These are "No BS, Hands Down, Run like a Spotted Critter" absolutely magnificent pistols. I could hang my head in shame as I sold or traded a couple of pairs of these, and if I had a time machine, I would go back and cancel those sales or trades. When you have Longhunter, on speed dial, and you make these fine things sing from the same hymn book, you become a connoisseur. Dusty was a working man's mechanic, and anything he touched was A LOT better for it. If you want to "Cowboy Up", this is the pinnacle of run like you're mamma's sewing machine.
Hmmmmmm, ya got me re-thinkin this.
I knew him, whenever I shot at Eagle Lake. Stayin in the Columbus motel, and walk by his room...door was open and he was on the floor, sippin and workin on guns. Pretty interesting man. Okay, I thought he was kool! LOL I bought this pair from him.

..least in my family.
Oh and, Lassiter is, In my opinion, the premier Ruger NV short stroke gunsmith.

picked mine up at the ohio state shoot. I am sadly disappointed. the triggers are 8-81/2 lbs on one and 7-8 lbs on the other. Everyone who felt them wondered if it had a safety on when they tried to dry fire. The actions are a bit stiff as expected for a brand-new firearm. I will be reaching out to EMF to see about returning these for service. Surely that is not within their specs. The case coloring is great, the grips are very grippy, sights are bright and come into view nicely and the octagon barrels are cool, but as is out of the box, these are nowhere near "match ready"
Mean Gun Mark,
Congratulations to your 2025 Ohio State Frontier Cartridge Championship!
Did you shoot these guns in the main match? I hope not.
Your findings are dis-heartening. I hope you get a satisfactory result(s) from EMF. I am sure you will.
That being said, we knew up front, the heavy trigger pulls that will be evident. Except!!! To have 7 and 8 lb trigger pulls, well, at 68 years old, I would be unhappy as well.
I found, doing some basic polishing of parts, that are related to the hammer and trigger area, reduced mine down to below 4 lbs.
Please keep us up to date with your findings.

I just received mine last week after a 4 month wait! I haven't shot them yet, but other than the heavy trigger pull, which can be easily resolved, I'm very impressed with everything on these pistols, including the price, and I've shot Ubertis, Piettas, ROAs, and Vaqueros for years. I'm hoping to shoot them this weekend, but I know I'll soon be dreading the decision before each match, whether to shoot my stainless Ruger Vaqueros, short-stroked, with brass sights ($900 + $500 + $75 = $1,475 each) or these new Pietta GW Competition Series ($901 each)? Either way, I'll have a fantastic pair of backup pistols that will be just as good as the main match pair. Of course I'll have to gather some spare parts (leaf springs) for the Piettas, something one rarely needs for Rugers.
Also, I love my Bling, so I had to swap the black plastic grips for a set of pewter grips!

Gosh darn, them are too sweet and elegant ta boot.

Only reason I ask is, if they are slip ons, that may be the reason they shoot low. I added two to my RNV, and even shaved the bottom down so they were all the way on, still made me shoot low.
They are not slip-ons. Solid brass, I will assume.
As for them shooting 2.25" low... that is outstanding for factory direct. That load, I shot, is legal in SASS power factor.
Ruger SA and Colt SAA with un-filed front sights, correct me if wrong, with the same light load, will print about 6 to 8 inches lower.
Ruger and Colt use the standard load of a 158gr factory loaded 38 Special / 357 Mag factory load, to set the POI for all the factory output.
They do not cater to SASS shooter needs or wants.
Pietta, with this setup is.

Are they in double duelist, short stroke, big hammer spur models?
Well make that one-handed shooter considering my future in next four-six months.
Always great to see companies consider our sport.
Hmmm, Cheyanne Culpepper won the EOT 2025 Elder Statesman Gunfighter with them. And Slick McClade won Classic Cowboy with them as well.
Yes, they are short stroked and have an unique, only on this model. the EMF-Pietta Great Western II (Gunfighter Competitor) revolvers, which (In My Opinion) are outstanding lowered hammer and the knurling, I have never seen before. Functions quite well.

I too have a set. Triggers were atrocious although I managed to shoot EOT clean shooting gunfighter. I just had the triggers redone to 2 lbs. much sweeter now
I had heard about you shooting them at EOT 2025. May I ask for details of these pistols? Length, caliber, etc and how you Won your category? Congratulations on that achievement.

Great report Dee. I'm waiting for Slick to convince Pietta to come out with a set in 32 H and R.
Thanks, Now the dilemma of possible Ruger main match over the Pietta's...
That confab about the 32 H&R's needs you to poke at it....

I'm surprised the triggers are so heavy even after polishing. I have done nothing to my Piettas except the Wolff "Shooter's Pak" sku 32325 and installed a pair of the lowered hammers. I recently bought a trigger pull gauge since I've never had one and thought I ought to have one in the toolbox. One of mine has a 2.5 pound trigger and the other is 3.5 pounds. I could have never guessed that they were that light nor that they were different than each other. They still pop CCI primers all day long so the mainsprings must not be that light. 4.2 pounds isn't heavy or anything, I'm just surprised to see a slicked up gun heavier than mine since mine are basically factory parts besides springs, which I only changed because the bolt spring was misbehaving.
That is pretty kool.
I have not changed any springs, as of yet. I wanted to see how simple cleaning and polishing would do, for the overall performance of the pistols. It did reduce the trigger pull about 1 lb and 2lbs, so that is good. I do like 1lb or less for my trigger pull on the Rugers.

An Update on these two Great Western II's with the "Gunfighter Competitor" Factory short stroke action job.
JUST MY OPINON........ continuation
A shooter report on the new revolvers I bought from EMF.
May 18, 2025 - disassemble, clean and polish each pistol.
S# E1xxxx8...polished parts of hammer, trigger, bolt and associated screw posts. Replaced base pin with used Colt base pin. Reassembled. Lubed where I like to. Smoother and trigger pull decreased to 4.2 lb.
S# E1xxxx7...polished parts of hammer, trigger, bolt and associated screw posts. Replaced the base pin with the last Colt base pin I found in my parts bin. Reassembled. lubed where I like to.
This one is okay, not as smooth action wise, as the other. Trigger pull close to the other, about 4.2lbs.
I need to revisit the trigger springs, maybe a wire one that I have in the parts bin, might work.
Or hound that Slick "Championship" McClade about what to do.
Course if someone pipes up, like Colorado "PineBOX" Coffinmaker, on the cylinder base pins, jus let us know here. Thanks for that tip, they work(dryfiring wise), but I have yet to shoot them....that is the final test to make sure they function correctly.
Still, all things considered, these are outstanding "out of the box - direct from the factory" pistols to shoot from the get go, in any match situations.
I plan on shooting them again soon. After laundry, vet, mowing, potting plants, picking up grandkid, sleepin, shaving, Oh the zero turn needs work....etc
GOD BLESS US, THIS IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!!!!

very nice review , i have a pair in 357/38 that see less use than they should , ill get them out this year a bit more ,
Yes, I can see that the timing was right, for me, to check these out. Kinda slow time for shooting and at home so, I did some more work on them today. During the spring or fall, I would not have worked on them, as I already have my main match guns up and running and shooting matches. Keepin up with the family life, house maintenance, yard work, Lovely life, but I culled out some time to do these. Pretty impressive guns that Pietta came out with. I am a Colt SAA fan, so these I can work on, as well as them Rugers.

OK Dee,
As soon as you can, source up a pair of Uberti, Non-Safety, single groove Cylinder Base Pins, R&R the OEM Pietta Base Pins.
And/or use a Colt original base pin? be it 1st or 2nd Gen?

I have the same problem. Looking closely, I could see a slight lip of metal, protruding around the recoil shield firing pin hole. Gently filed it smooth. Helped, but still loves 122gr and up grain lead bullets. They shoot well. 100 to 115gr seem to slow or hangup. The recoil shield may need to be replaced or reset?
