Dutch Anderson SASS # 12812
All numbers matching Whitney Navy .36 caliber. This gun has been set-up for shooting and is very accurate. The cylinder face has been trued and the barrel set back one turn for .003" barrel to cylinder gap. As such it shoots very cleanly for several loadings without cleaning. The front sight had been replaced with an old Lyman or Marbles rifle sight that was dovetailed into the barrel. It now sports a proper type brass post that is taller than original to hit point of aim. The bore has pitting but the rifling is strong. The action and timing are tight and precise. The loading lever had the ball type catch, not the latch. My best info is the gun was made in 1859 or 1860. It is not martially marked. $1500 shipped. Hermann Kuhl
If only I had the gold for this one...a Whitney would be perfect for my persona as a former Marine 1862-1872. Free bump for a great piece!
