Yesterday, the Senate Committee on Insurance, Licensing and Forestry voted to pass Senate Bill 619, the constitutional carry bill. It is now eligible for floor debate in the full Senate. Please contact your state senator and ask them to SUPPORT SB 619.

Senate Bill 619 ensures that law-abiding adults who are legally eligible to possess a firearm, may carry a handgun for self-defense without government red tape or fees. It does not change the legal criteria for who is eligible to carry. It also maintains the existing concealed weapon license system, so citizens who wish to obtain a license can still do so.

Currently, 21 states have constitutional/permitless carry. Of them, five passed such laws just last year. This year, the trend continues as permitless/constitutional carry legislation is already gaining support or moving in a number of states. Now is the time for Wisconsin to act.

Again, please contact your state senator and ask them to SUPPORT SB 619.
