Two bad poems in a single day.

Welcome to the Club

Paul Mazan

So, you shed your blood in Middle Eastern sand,

in my generation it was the jungle of Vietnam.

Welcome home, we're so proud of you.

We're glad you made it we're glad you're through.

I'm glad you got the support we were denied

but that's not the end, hang on for the ride.

All that you fought for is being given away,

pretty much the same as it was in my day.

You watched your friends suffer and die

while others were maimed and hardly uttered a cry.

You paid with your blood for every acre and town

now politicians give it all back with nary a frown.

Now you know how it feels and why we still rale

over betrayal by our government, to no avail.

Try to fit back into society and life.

Love your children your work and your wife.

You've paid freedoms awful price

hold your head high and here's some advise.

Speak out at the injustice that has been done,

Speak out because tomorrow they will want your son.

The'll send him off to some piece of hell

and sell him out just as well.

It's politics, where the need to be reelected

trumps honor and sacrifice, it's to be expected.

So, welcome to the club of America's betrayed vets.

We all support you son, and that's as good as it gets.
